While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.
Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.
I have seen that this is not an isolated with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

Thanks to the one who found out that Mcaffee was the issue i was able to solve the gateway problem by uninstalling Mcaffee.

after 3 days of being without internet and trying every idea on here i get to the end and read about mcafee
those fu$#ers!!!!
deleted mcafee and all is good!

Just had this problem and finally found a solution: Disable your firewall (McAfee is what we have). The internet works right away. Then you can re enable your firewall.
Just fixed a Dell Inspiron by uninstalling McAfee. Had the same network connection issue as what has been discussed. This connection problem was true for both the wireless connection as well as a direct connection with the ethernet cable.
Error was: Default Gateway Not Available
Basically the virus protection had expired (3 month trial) and McAfee was being a big brother and blocking the connection to the internet to protect the PC from getting a virus.
