default gateway not available in windows 7

G'day,

While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.

Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.

The details of my network controllers (there are two) are as follows.

Description . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

   Manufacturer  . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA

   Provider  . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft

   Version   . . . . . . . . . . . : 1.0.1.211

   Inf File Name . . . . . . . . . : C:\Windows\INF\netnvm32.inf

   Inf File Date . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, April 22, 2009  12:47:44 AM

   Section Name  . . . . . . . . . : NVENET55.NDI

   Hardware ID . . . . . . . . . . : pci\ven_10de&dev_0373

   Instance Status Flags . . . . . : 0x180200a

   Device Manager Status Code  . . : 0

   IfType  . . . . . . . . . . . . : 6

   Physical Media Type . . . . . . : 14

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.

I have seen that this is not an isolated  with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

    SOLUTION FOUND SO SIMPLE

i went through aal the forum answers but it was very easy at the end ,

my gateway was blocked by  the Macafee antivirus as it was near to expire, you just turn your macafee internet security off and then on again,

or simply remove macafee frpm your PC,

THANKS AGAIN because nobody can even imagine about this solution,

    khan

This seems to be nothing to do with nVidia. I reckon its windows 7 itself that the problem, though i'm only a novice.  I have an intel processor on my laptop and the same problem appears EVERY SINGLE  DAY when i'm on my home network. The other computers in the house are windows xp or mac and theres no problems with them.

I had the same problems especially when downloading big files. I've been researching all over the net, and tried a lot of things which didn't work, but now I found a hint which worked for me (at least for a few hours now).

The hint (sorry, lost the link) was to change the DNS Server IP adress to some other Open DNS Server, like Google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

I did that, and a few Gigs later, it still works.

It sounds funny, and I cannot explain why this works, the original poster couldn't explain either, he just tried. At least it's really easy to do.

    Hope it helps you guys.

I have this problem constanly ! It is windows 7 and windows live msn thats causing the problem ! MICROSOFT are to blame ! It is rediculous that they can screw up a persons experience surfing and chatting as easily as they do yet provide no fix for the problem they have caused ! Windows 7 is an abomination !!!!! And yet they have made it so you cant roll back to XP ... Who do they think they bloody are !!!! ....Bring back XP and dump Win 7 ! ....... Rob
