default gateway not available in windows 7

G'day,

While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.

Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.

The details of my network controllers (there are two) are as follows.

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.

I have seen that this is not an isolated  with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

    Is Microsoft ever going to provide solution to this problem. Very bad experience with Win 7.

    I, like others, had been having this problem for quite some time.  After scouring the web, looking for solutions, it seems to me that people with this problem (no matter what their hardware configuration) have only one thing as the common denominator:  Windows 7.  You don't need to be a software engineer to realize this.  I suspect a Windows update is the culprit, as I didn't have this problem when I first started using this os, and I hadn't made any changes to my system before the problem began... but I could definitely be wrong. 

    In any case, the solution that seems to be working for me, is to turn off firewall/antivirus protection (I have Norton, with a Realtek network controller), and then turn it back on again.  I've been running quite some time now without interruption in network connectivity.  I suppose it's possible that W7 doesn't get along well with some (or all) third party security software.

    Just my two cents, hope this helps some of you.

    Guys,

    i've found the answer.

    soooooooooooooo simple.

    Uninstall Mcafee security.  As my subscription had ended, somehow this was disabling my internet connection.  Uninstalled it and instantly internet working again.

    Well this is pretty ridiculous...

    • I don't have MaCacaffe, I'm using security essentials.
    • The laptops had the Intel 1030 wireless card in them, connection would drop about every 2 mins.
    • Had Dell replace the 1030 card in all 20 laptops with the Intel 6150. Works allot better now, still have the issue once a day.
    • All drivers are current to the day.
    • Others laptops in the network run at 100%
    • Laptops are W7 Pro 64bit

    I began this ordeal thinking it was my wireless infrastructure. Than moved onto Dell and had them replace 20 wireless cards. Now I found this article and am thinking MS is to blame. So after reading this I guess I'm just SOL?
