While Windows 7 works and looks good, there is one major issue which threatens to derail the entire experience for me.
Several times a day, the default gateway becomes unavailable, which means that the PC running Windows 7 loses internet connectivity. At the same time, other PCs, running Vista, are continuing to work normally. This includes one PC with a WiFi connection and another which is normally wired.

The problem is solved by manually having to repair the problem when Windows 7 finds that the default gateway is not avaialble and resets network controller 2.
I have seen that this is not an isolated with several reports on the net, some suggesting that a different driver might help, but which one? Any suggestions?

It's one of many known nVidia issues with Windows 7 that nVidia must correct, unfortuniately Microsoft has nothing to do with it. I would sugguest that you contact nVidia for assistance.

I cannot believe this issue has not been fixed and now they want us to buy Windows 8. Don't they care? It is VERY FRUSTRATING. Sometimes I lose connection several times a day.
Update: went to the intel website and ran an update diagnostic. The new version of the proset/wireless driver is available... version 15....

I recently bought a Toshiba Z835 ultra thin with dual core i7 processor, win7 home premium and I have the same problem. (default gateway unavailable)
The unit works fine with the 5G band, but as you can imagine, the range on the 5G is very short. Thus the 2.4G band is what is problematic.
I can have an excellent quality, and get no ping on the default gateway, dchp server. I contacted Toshiba tech support and they want me to pay the to rectify the problem of which they are fully aware.... the laptop is not even 3 months old.
Given the fact that this issue is almost 3years old, and is UTTERLY ANNOYING we aught to get an update that solves this problem once and for all.
I agree that it was as a result of a windows update. Same issue here as this was not a problem initially
