Hi all,
I know that this topic has appeared once or twice in these forums but there haven't been any resolutions and they've been quiet lately so I started a new one.
Recently, I migrated from Windows XP to 7 and found this problem. When I try to copy a file (a 1.2GB video) to a usb flash drive that I know is usb 2.0 hi-speed (copying files to it in xp were really fast) it takes over 2 minutes. 7 reports that it is copying at 3-4 MB/sec. When I copy from the flash drive to my computer it copies at about 9-10MB/sec. I've also tried plugging it into the rear ports but that doesn't change the transfer speed at all. I know it isn't something related to the flash stick itself because transferring files to it in xp were a lot faster.
Some random information: Transferring files from one hard drive to another averages at about 60MB/sec (both of the hard drives are SATA II drives). I'm not sure what speed it should be but it doesn't feel drastically slower than on my xp machine. Windows 7 and my device drivers are all up-to-date.
System specs:
Dell optiplex GX620
Pentium 4 3.2GHz
2GB Ram
Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
AVG 9 free edition anti-virus
My setup is almost identical to how it was on my windows xp machine except I have less programs installed so there isn't something new that could have caused problems.

I know it's not the answer you wanted for "better speeds" but it seems like the best bet as i dont believe MS is looking into this one.

First we have to accept the fact that a static 2.o device has no drivers. How does the MFG of whatever drive not have the knowledge to keep a little bitty piece for their own needs. Like maxell it has a disk pro or something. Memorex does not advertise what is not there. "ha, ha". The synops cannot even decide if it a music stick or not. Try ready boost I do not think it will help. Are you trying to charge us on our own drives? Drag & drop works faster. Try it it will settle your mindset.

My settings are, by default what you suggested, and I still have very low transfer time with a 6 core CPU and 12gigs of RAM. No one like a pompous ****. Your simple trick isnt working for many people. Please leave the attitude at the door when providing help tips. Even more so when the easiest explanation isnt a solution.
To others, this will not work in most cases, and your OS has already set these by default.
This is a coding error that needs to be addressed.
Ive got a 64bit Win7, 6 core CPU system w/ 12g of RAM, two fast terabyte drives and I should not have this problem transferring to a 3.0 usb, 8gig flash drive.
The format seems to be an issue. exfat seems to scream fast, but my DVD hardware doesnt recognize it. So Im left with a slow transfer in win7 that slows my entire system to a crawl.
This being said, **** off ArcAiN6.

In arcs defense he did offer some useful tips. As I mentioned I've given up on Microsoft ever fixing this issue. But let me point out that transfer speeds have little to do with how many processors you have or how much ram you have. It depends on the motherboard and the drivers typically. Since we have confirmed speed issues that were fine on one mobo and then not fine on the same mobo we can point to the OS and youre flaming towards the community does not help. Microsoft needs to develop better drivers, until then this thread shall remain eternally open. Since windows 8.1 has been released it seems unlikely they will repair this in win 7.
