Slow transfer speeds to USB 2.0 flash drive

OK. I think I am going crazy. I thought I had fixed the issue, but it came back!! I have laptops running XP, Vista (32) and W7. My usb sticks run great on all but my new Tosh R630. On this the Sandisk Cruzer 4gb goes fine but other cheaper ones just go so slowly, My Medion running W7 works fine with the cheap ones so it cant be the usb sticks. I tried reinstalling the chipset drivers and that seemed to be the answer. The cheaper ones worked great but only when initially put into the slot. Trying to access and move fi;les after that and the slow problem would sometimes  re-surface. Sometimes the Safe Eject works and other times it says cant stop volume etc, even when I have closed down anything to do with the usb. When the safe eject works it seems the usb is also working fine. When it doesnt work the usb has usually been misbehaving as well. Why is it so intermittent. If I re-install the drivers again it seems to work for a while. At this moment I have fully working USB slots transfering data and reading the USBs like lightning. Hope something helps anybody else and if someone has an idea for me to try, that would be great. Maybe me pushing usb sticks in and out of different ports to test is causing an occassional malfunction, so I'll just calm down and  try for a day or two and then report back.

Amazing difference. Thanks so much ArcAiN6. The transfer rates are now as fast as my Vista and XP machines. Before that it was so slow it was totally unusable. Surely Microsoft should know this easy fix !!!

I have a similar problem. Occurs when I try to move files from USB to hard drive (300 MB). Takes about 2 hours (11.5kb transfer).

Have just updated to Windows 7 from XP.

I do not have the same problem with the USB drive in laptop running VIsta (transfer rate of ~ 50MBps)

I get the same problem too and its the update drivers response all the time but how come windows xp transfers faster and it doesnt update drivers as much as windows 7 does.  Win XP usb rates were worlds better then Vista/7 ever is and I dont know why Microsoft just doesnt go back to that code or offer it to those that want the faster rates we used to get back then.

 

I transfered an 500meg avi file from my microsd card to my pc harddisk and it took about 45 secs (what windows said with a 10mb/sec rate)  and same file to my usb drive started off ok with a 3mb rate then half way through it died to a measly 300kb/sec and now says a 20min wait.   Thats not counting the speed slows down even more at times.

i have the same problem...my flashdrives copied and saved at blazing speeds with xp compared to windows 7 which is slower then snail mail.......and when you format a flashdisk it takes10 times longer which sucks.......microsoft needs to fix this problem with windows 7 ....which in all other areas i like much better then xp.....its just the snail mail motion of flashdisk speed on 7 which blows...or maybe they just want us to buy a computer with usb 20.0 huh instead of 2.0
