Wireless Network Will Not Connect Automatically On Boot

I have Windows 7 Professional.  Every time I boot up I have to to click on wireless icon & enter code key to connect to net.  When I go to Network & Sharing Center, active network is showing.  When I go to Manage Wireless Networks, active network not listed.  When I try to manually add it, I fill in all data and click next, I get notice that access is denied. I have admin. rights. Have talked w/HP & router people to no avail.  Just need to find fix that will automatically connect to internet on boot without necessity of entering key code each time I boot up.  Would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

open search, type "services.msc" open services.

Scroll down to "wlan auto config" right click, stop the service.

Navigate to

"C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc\ delete everything in this folder  leaving only a folder called "profiles" delete everything in the "profiles" folder except for a folder called "interfaces" delete everything in the "interfaces" folder)

Restart "wlan auto config" connect to your wireless network, enter

your passkey, (ensure the connect automaticly box is checked)

Restart your computer job done, your computer will now connect to your wireless network automaticly on boot.

Hi all, I followed the above advice and thank God you guys got it just right!!! The tip from Fikin to Smokey was right on!! He said to:

I saw this very frustrating issue on both my work and home WLAN. A colleague has helped me to identify the issue and the fix we used is posted below;

  1. Go to the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc\Profiles (it's hidden folder so you'll have to manually type the path from the windows start bar),
  2. Give the local Administrators group full permissions;

 a) In windows explorer, right click within the folder and select properties

 b) Select the Security tab

 c) Click Edit

 d) Select the Administrators group (or if it's not there already, add it)

 e) Ensure all the permissions are ticked, with the exception of special permissions,

 f) Click OK then OK.

  1. Try adding a wireless profile again by going to Network and Sharing Centre - you should not now get the "Access Denied" message.

This worked Great!!! p.s,  I copied and pasted the folder location instead of typing it out. This fixed it, Thank God. It was just so frustrating. Thanks all, Ben.

    The above tells me that it is your router & not your PC that is at fault, however you can try to remove miniport's by:

    Boot into safe mode

    Right click on the miniport, choose “Update Driver”.

    Choose “Browse my computer”.

    In the next window, choose “Let me pick driver from a list”.

    Uncheck “Show compatible hardware”.

    From the “Manufacturer” list, choose “Microsoft”,

    From the “Network Adapter” list, choose “MAC Bridge Miniport”. (It can be any device the user is allowed to uninstall.****

    In "Device manager", delete the device that just turned into the “MAC Bridge Miniport” device.

    Once the miniports are removed, reboot.

    The only thing that mitigates against that is that I have tried 4 other wireless devices on the same router, starting with them all off, and turning them on in different sequences, and the only one that has a problem is the same notebook laptop, all the other devices autoconnect with internet access, regardless of whether there are other devices already affiliated to the router or not.

    When the troublesome notebook is connected to the router, but has no Internet access, if I check the adapter properties, it has a totally random IP address, well outside the settings in the router, so despite being set to have its IP address dynamically allocated, it seems to get one from elsewhere, or makes its own up.

    Is it possible that the notebook is possessed by the devil - and needs an exorcist?

    I'll give the other settings a try as well

    Thank you for being patient with this, maybe we'll get an academy award when we find out what the problem is.

    Not been on this thread for about 3 years so appologies to anyone that has asked me a question that has not received a reply.

    If my first soloution failed, try This:

    Install & run CCleaner

    Right click "Computer"

    Open "Propererties"

    Open "Device Manager"

    Click "View" (Top Left)

    Click "Show Hidden Devices

    Expand "Network Adapters"

    Right click, then uninstall everything listed under "Network Adapters"

    Click "Action" (Top Left)

    Click "Scan for Hardware Changes"

    Do the above as administrator & in adidition to my first suggestion,

    By doing the above you have removed all network accounts & have removed any driver conflicts as when the drivers re-install only the ones that you need are installed, (note some network cards require you to re-install there specific drivers in addition to the above)

    Tried it and although the uninstall command worked for some stuff, the wan miniports refused to be uninstalled, so I soldiered on with the rest of the instructions

    It seemed to work fine, and I turned the laptop on and off a couple of times to test it, and let it hibernate - and it came back and not only auto connected, but it let the IP flow as well.

    Turned it off for 24 hours and I was back to square 1.

    Now - bearing in mind that this only seemed to have started since swapping to a new wireless router (and switching to PPTP from PPPOE) I disabled the wan miniport for PPPOE (it wont let me uninstall it) and tried it all again. Again it worked for a few hours of turning off and on and hibernating, but went back to not working when left for a day.

    The thing is, the laptop does auto connect to the router, it just doesn't let the IP flow, and I get no Internet access come up.

    If I switch the router off and back on, it connects and gives me internet access.

    I'm convinced this is a setting issue, just knowing which one I guess

    would disabling all network adapters bar the wireless one be worth trying?
