Teredo tunneling pseudo interface shows a yellow exlamation mark in Device Manager. Windows 7 Ultmate 64

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on my system and all is well except for a yellow exclamation mark showing in Device Manager under "Network adapters" and against the item "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface"

Looking under the properties for this device shows "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

I haven't got any idea on what this device is or does.

Could someone please advise on this problem.

First thing I would like to suggest you is to uninstall and reinstall the device from device manager and verify if the yellow exclamation mark disappears.

You can also try updating your network driver by following these steps:

Right click the Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
Update Driver Software...
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Select from the list and update the driver.

Also you may get this mark because the network adapter may not be compatible with Windows 7. Request you to contact the manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver/adaptor that is compatible with Windows 7.

Tried to find this file by searching Tered...etc... in order to update the driver. Could not find it on my computer by searching via windows explorer. Can anyone tell me where it is located...?????

I tried this checking the box for "have disk" and then found that it was now called "Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter", so it did find a driver this way. It still didn't work, though. For the time being, I have just disabled it in Device Manager, so that if my ISP changes routers and I can get ipv6 traffic, I can simply re-enable...

BTW, I did install the latest (Win7) drivers for my NIC first. Teredo still appeared afterwards. Why this never happened under Win7 RC remains a mystery.

Teredo has to do with ipv6 traffic, and as far as I've been able to learn is only of use if you have a connection/router capable of handling ipv6. If there is a use for those of us behind ipv4 routers, I have yet to be informed of it. But that's why I took the simple route of just disabling it in Device Manager so that I can re-enable if I find out differently.

I did call MS tech support, since I'm still within my free support period for Win7 RTM. I don't think the tech knew any more than I did, though he did try to find out.

Why is there so little info on this for the average user?

I think MS should have a FAQ on Teredo (a "Dummies" version, for non-techies like me) if they are going to make its appearance default behavior. Just IMHO...

Driver details says "tunnel.sys"...you will be able to fid it is you search for that name.
