Teredo tunneling pseudo interface shows a yellow exlamation mark in Device Manager. Windows 7 Ultmate 64

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on my system and all is well except for a yellow exclamation mark showing in Device Manager under "Network adapters" and against the item "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface"

Looking under the properties for this device shows "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

I haven't got any idea on what this device is or does.

Could someone please advise on this problem.

Thanks.

Hi Siebert9,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers Community Forum!

First thing I would like to suggest you is to uninstall and reinstall the device from device manager and verify if the yellow exclamation mark disappears.

You can also try updating your network driver by following these steps:

  • Right click the Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
  • Update Driver Software...
  • Browse my computer for driver software
  • Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  • Select from the list and update the driver.

Also you may get this mark because the network adapter may not be compatible with Windows 7. Request you to contact the manufacturer’s website and download the latest driver/adaptor that is compatible with Windows 7.

To check for compatibility in windows 7, visit the below mentioned link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

Hope this helps resolve your issue!

Thanks & Regards,

Supreeth - Microsoft Support.

    Hi Stone624,

I believe the issue with ZoneAlarm and some other third party software it that they sometimes disabled

    IPv6.

Can you try running the "Re-enable IPv6" fixit from the following link:

    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852?wa=wsignin1.0

A properly working "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface" will show up only as a "hidden device":

Device Manager > View > Show hidden devices"

If you do this, it permanently removes any and all, IPv6 capabilities from your Windows 7 & 8.1 computers. So, best to still see if you can get that driver fixed, but so far I've not found any where (yet) to download a driver or a way to fix this issue.

Sad to say, the above instructions by "OntarioGuy" this removes the "Teredo tunneling pseudo" from Device manager, but it also takes out any capabilities for IP6 mode, and leaves everyone stuck in IP4 mode for good. This is not a good solution at all.

This problem is "not" related to Zone Alarm at all, most everyone see's the yellow Exclamation mark on this "not working" Microsoft Driver, and sad to say, Microsoft has no clue about it either, have called their highest technical support people, and none of them knew how to fix it, nor did they know how to get the IP6 working properly again. Even by redoing Windows 7, it doesn't help this consistent problem with this driver.

It's sadly a case of a major faulty Microsoft's Operating systems, since this same Teredo Tunneling Pseudo error comes up in Windows 8.0 & 8.1 as well.
