"Windows has detected an IP address conflict"

This continues to pop up on my computer. I have changed internet services. How do I correct this problem. "It says thatanother computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact you network administrator for help resolving this issue. More details are available in the Windows System event log." I do not know what to do.

Hi Champions05,

Do you have Service pack installed for Windows Vista?

I would suggest you to use the below provided methods and check - **Method 1:**You can get a new IP address for your computer. You might need to do this if you are having connection problems.

a. Click Start. Type cmd in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. 

b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

ipconfig /all (there is a space between ipconfig and /)

The ipconfig /all command displays Windows TCP/IP settings for all your network adapters.

c. ipconfig /release in the command prompt and press ENTER. This releases your current IP address.

d. ipconfig /renew in the command prompt and press ENTER.

The DHCP configuration for all adapters will be renewed. To renew the IP address for a

specific adapter, type the adapter name that appears when you type ipconfig at the command prompt.

Method 2: If the issue persists and you do not have Windows Vista Service Pack installedthen you may refer to the below link and check if using the hot fix assists you resolve the issue -

    I have the same problem. Who are the 'Network admin' referred to in the script?

    Also, if it will help me, where will I find my 'windows system event log'?

    I'm a 79 year old pc novice & will be grateful for advice.

    Go to Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings -> Whatever the wireless adapter is -> Properties -> unchecking Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6). After unchecking it, I haven't had the message come back. Then, I turned it back on and the message popped up almost immediately. So I'm pretty sure it's an IPv6 thing, at least in my case.
