"Windows has detected an IP address conflict"

This continues to pop up on my computer. I have changed internet services. How do I correct this problem. "It says thatanother computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact you network administrator for help resolving this issue. More details are available in the Windows System event log." I do not know what to do.

Hi Champions05,

Do you have Service pack installed for Windows Vista?

I would suggest you to use the below provided methods and check - **Method 1:**You can get a new IP address for your computer. You might need to do this if you are having connection problems.

a. Click Start. Type cmd in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. 

b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

ipconfig /all (there is a space between ipconfig and /)

The ipconfig /all command displays Windows TCP/IP settings for all your network adapters.

c. ipconfig /release in the command prompt and press ENTER. This releases your current IP address.

d. ipconfig /renew in the command prompt and press ENTER.

The DHCP configuration for all adapters will be renewed. To renew the IP address for a

specific adapter, type the adapter name that appears when you type ipconfig at the command prompt.

Method 2: If the issue persists and you do not have Windows Vista Service Pack installedthen you may refer to the below link and check if using the hot fix assists you resolve the issue -

    Hi Meghmala,

    I followed your instruction listed above, however, after entering ipconfig /renew I received a message that reads "No operation can be performed on Loacal Area Connection while it has its media disconnected".  How do I resolve this?  Also, how can I identify the adapter name?

    is this message a warning of being hacked?????

    it's possible that your adapter's ip address is being spoofed by malware

    How do I clear the other IP Address that is constantly ruining my computor!I have had to take my computor in over a dozen times at a cost of over one thousand dollars already to clean them up and all my computors are trashed now,please help me with my IP! THANK YOU,Joe Collette

    Thanks for the advice. I tried this and once I  discovered if I went to all programs, and then to accessories then to CMD prompt that the option to run as administrator came up and did indeed enable me to solve the problem :-)
