"Windows has detected an IP address conflict"

This continues to pop up on my computer. I have changed internet services. How do I correct this problem. "It says thatanother computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer. Contact you network administrator for help resolving this issue. More details are available in the Windows System event log." I do not know what to do.

Hi Champions05,

Do you have Service pack installed for Windows Vista?

I would suggest you to use the below provided methods and check - **Method 1:**You can get a new IP address for your computer. You might need to do this if you are having connection problems.

a. Click Start. Type cmd in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. 

b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

ipconfig /all (there is a space between ipconfig and /)

The ipconfig /all command displays Windows TCP/IP settings for all your network adapters.

c. ipconfig /release in the command prompt and press ENTER. This releases your current IP address.

d. ipconfig /renew in the command prompt and press ENTER.

The DHCP configuration for all adapters will be renewed. To renew the IP address for a

specific adapter, type the adapter name that appears when you type ipconfig at the command prompt.

Method 2: If the issue persists and you do not have Windows Vista Service Pack installedthen you may refer to the below link and check if using the hot fix assists you resolve the issue -

    jenniferwise i have the same problem also using verizon and ahp computer,was you able to resolve this problem and if so let me know as i am a student and a lot of my work is over the internet would surely appreciate your help thanks

    I HAVE THE SAME MESSAGE POPPING UP ON MY COMPUTER PERIODICALLY.    I ONLY HAVE THE ONE COMPUTER AND ONE USB CARD WITH VERIZON. TO MY UNDERSTANDING THIS MEANS ONLY I CAN ACCESS MY INFO, AND ONLY I CAN USE MY DATA.  I CALLED VERIZON, WHICH THEY COULDNT FIGURE IT OUT, I THEN CALLED GEEK SQUAD, THEY SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH HOW INTERNET CONNECTION WAS SET UP..HELP!!!  I HAVE A HP COMPUTER WITH WINDOWS 7.

    It would have been helpful if you had told us how you connect to the Internet, and whether you have more than one computer or device on a home network. There should be only one DHCP server on a network. The DHCP server has the job of handing out IP assignments to each computer on the network. Perhaps your modem or router has its DHCP server function turned off.

    Hello, I have windows 7 and the same message has popped up in the past. Do I take the same steps to solve the problem?

    I have had this IP address conflict for about two months and have not been able to resolve it.  Have you managed to get rid of the message and if so, would you mind sharing the solution with me.
