fix problem "local only" when connection is across a wireless connection

I have solved the problem on my vista laptop.

After reading this post I looked at my symantec anti virus.  I had something called proactive threat protection.  I disabled that but left on the rest of my anti-virus and everything has been fine since.  I hope this helps someone.

Me too. I have toshiba vista laptop, and struggled until I decided to roll back to original manufacturer recovery disk, reloading everything from scratch. still didnt help. Using WEP encryption works, so I know the wireless interface on the laptop works. but that is not acceptable as WEP is such a weak encryption - basically no security. am trying to use WPA or WPA2 encryption, which is not working for vista. laptop is a few feet from the router, so plenty of signal strength. another non-Vista laptop is running fine. uninstalled the trial version of mcAfee. updated the vista software and all drivers. assigned an ip address to the laptop, and when it boots, I see that it is assigned that address. disabled all the ipv6. disabled the DHCP broadcast stuff. disabled the vista firewall.  ipconfig /all is shown below, which looks ok to me. never had Norton or symantic installed. tried resetting the ip stack. wired ethernet to the router works. just getting the local access only on wireless with WPA encryption. Router is fairly new netgear WNR2000, and also tried a brand new netgear multiband router with identical results.

Could sure use some help here.

Similar issue that is killing me - Local Access only - on a Cisco WAP4410n - works on all other WAPs I've tried.

Details: DHCP pulls a valid IP address, gateway & DNS, but is Local Access Only.  Cannot ping any devices, including local gateway.  ARP table has no entry for gateway.

TruthSeeke - I'm rowing the same boot.  Same laptop, Vista, version and newtwork card.  Difference, I'm using a Belkin F7D4302.  Swapped out my older Linksys to go with a 'n' netwkr, and nothing but problems with the Presario F700.  Other devices tuned right in iPhone, PS3, and 3 other laptops.  Nothing to contribute, except moral support and hopes that someone can help us out.  I've tried everything mentioned so far, but no changes... only local access.
