access point appear: unidentified network
internet appear bloqued
access: Local only
connection: wireless connection.
Please help check what is the reason "local only".
ip is assigned automatically by DHCP, but is not possible to connect to internet, the problem appear only on windows vista Pcs, in my other computer with XP version the connection is good.
I have Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1.

Check how your security is setup on your AP. I had to mess with mine a bit. For some reason, my windows 7 machines have been sensitive to it, especially on netgear AP's

A friend delivered his Compaq Laptop with this problem for me to fix. It had an Atheros 5700 and all it took was uninstalling the driver, rescanning hardware and allowing Vista to reinstall the driver.
what was the diagnosis?
I have this same problem with Netgear model DGND3300v2. We have always been able to get the internet with the Ethernet cable. How can I identify the make and model of the wireless car that you need. The laptop is an Acer 5520. Regards Jim
The recommendations on this thread are all quite good. Norton Removal tool is a great idea because Norton Internet Security installs a proxy and a faulty unistallation can make reaching your gateway impossible. Resetting you IP stack with the netsh commands is also a good recommendation. But the winner for me was the recommendation to get the version 9 driver from (incorrectly specified by the author) http://atheros.cz or more directly at: http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-drivers.php. For what it's worth all the finger pointing at Microsoft is incorrect in the cases of Norton's failure and in my case, the Atheros driver inadequacy. Just sucks the HP/Compaq don't care enough to produced product specific updated drivers for their existing customers. When I went to their site and updated the driver it didn't fix the problem. Atheros doesn't provide drivers directly to the public (only thru their customers). I clicked atheros.cz 's advertising banners as a way to say thanks and make them a couple nickels for saving my bacon.
