fix problem "local only" when connection is across a wireless connection

I also have this problem. I purchased a built system with Vista Home Premium 64bit with a Realtek 8185 wireless card. I started off with just Local Only (no Internet) after going through dozens (atleast 50) pages and tips I got the internet working after a mixture of things (IPV6, changing channels on router, resetting router, new drivers, etc...). But I still get random disconnects from my internet, much slower speeds than my XP laptop which is 2ft from my Vista machine, and very bad latency while running games. I've also ran traceroutes to multiple addresses and everytime I can get past 15 without it disconnecting.

Router: Linksys WRT54GS v6

Wireless Card: Realtek 8185 Extensible

When running a wired connection I have 0 issues, I also can connect to other wireless networks and have the same issues. I cannot go through with the link presented cause I am unable to find out which registry key is which for my adapters.

I bought my wife a Compact Presario laptop about 3 months ago.  It came with Vista Home w/SP1. We use the Linksys WRT54G ver. 5.0 wireless router.  I have a server connected via LAN and 2 XP pcs connected via wireless.  All were working well.

There was a Windows Defender update this past Monday, 4/5/09 at about 8:23 PM.  It was an automatic update that cannot be rolled back.

Since That update was applied, the laptop exhibits all symptoms listed in this thread.

I will also add that the autoconfiguration applies its own IP address.

I tried to connect to the router with both the wireless and lan, with no success.

I have tested going directly to the cable modem with no success. Yes, I rebooted the modem prior to connecting to it.

I contacted HP and was connected to India.  That person, after telling me to do everything that I had done already, set up a conference call with another Indian (representing Linksys).  She told me to do everything that I had already done with the router as well.  When she told me that I needed to reset the router to factory defaults, I told her that the modem would need to be turned off as well and I have my phone connected to it.  They promised to call me back...no call!!!!! 

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

The Vista Home Basic laptop I bought for my wife to use wirelessly on our home LAN has same problem. Connected by cable it sees LAN and Internet but on WLAN cannot get Internet. If I plug cable in it connects again and stays connected after removing cable but after restart again has no Internet on WLAN. Paradoxically, it can get email and RSS feeds on wifi, just no Internet. Also cannot print to networked wifi printer even though it found it and connected during installation.

Why is Vista blocking connections? my XP notebook does everything without any problems on the same network using the same settings.

I tried the registry fixes described in the KB article but to no avail.

I have the same problem, and the article 928233 did not help me.

1:    The trouble startet short after I changed my router to a wireless Zyxel P-335U. The wireless part is working, but the wired part does not work with my vista-pc (no problems with XP, PS3 and Wii).

2:    The wireless Vista is working.

When I hook the Ethernet cable directly from the modem there is no problems.

I hope you can help me.
