access point appear: unidentified network
internet appear bloqued
access: Local only
connection: wireless connection.
Please help check what is the reason "local only".
ip is assigned automatically by DHCP, but is not possible to connect to internet, the problem appear only on windows vista Pcs, in my other computer with XP version the connection is good.
I have Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1.

Check how your security is setup on your AP. I had to mess with mine a bit. For some reason, my windows 7 machines have been sensitive to it, especially on netgear AP's

I was able to get rid of the Local Only in the wireless network by going to my router settings and changing from "WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]" to WEP. As soon as I did this it worked on my Compaq Presario running Windows Vista SP1.
I have also tried (article 928223) and it hasn't helped...is anyone able to tell me if Windows 7 has the same problem? I am willing to upgrade but want to know if it fixes the problem before I spend the money I have Windows 7 home premium and I have been having wireless connection problems ever since I got my computer. I upgraded my internal wireless adapter with a netgea RangeMax PCI adapter WN311B. I also have a Netgear RangeMax Duo Wireless-NRouter WNDR3300. These togerther should be more than enough for speed and not having any connection issues. I also have a freaking Wireless N-300 USB adapter WNA3100, which gives me up to 270mbs, but i still havie problems getting any signal through out my house or to my playstation in the same room! **** I might have all types of stuff wrong though. GOOD LUCK.
P.S. can anyone give me some pointers on how to connect using wireless, not that I cannot connect, but I know there is something I am doing wrong.
A friend delivered his Compaq Laptop with this problem for me to fix. It had an Atheros 5700 and all it took was uninstalling the driver, rescanning hardware and allowing Vista to reinstall the driver.
