Sticky Notes: How to recover notes after closing?

When using Sticky Notes program to create notes on the desktop, you can't save the notes. You can minimize the notes, but if you hit the "x" or close, you lose all data. At least this is what's happening on my PC.

Is there any way to recover lost notes from Sticky Notes if I hit the "X" accidentally? I know you can copy and paste to and from other text editors and save that way, but what about staying in Sticky Notes to save anything or recover?

Your best chance to recover your data is to try navigating to the C:\Users<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes directory, right click on StickyNotes.snt, and select Restore Previous Versions.  This will pull the file from your latest restore point, if available.

I've discovered if you close the Sticky Note by right-clicking it on the taskbar, it closes the Sticky Note application.  However, next time you open Sticky Notes your data will return.  The same also applies if you leave the Sticky Note up when rebooting your computer.

Cheers,

Barbara

Download Notepad++ and install it, now navigate C:\Users<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes, right click on StickyNotes.snt, and right click on it and select Restore Previous Versions, wait for 5-10 seconds, then it will display the Previous versions, select the one on the top of the list and click "Restore"  This will restore the data of the last time. Now Right click on the "SitckyNotes.snt" and select "Edit with Notepad ++" then in the Notepad++ window look carefully you will find your data. Cheers!!!!

I don't speak computer. Have no idea what C:\Users<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes directoryis other than C is the hard drive. Wish people would stop assuming everyone who looks at these fixes knows what you are talking about.

I went to the last step.  And the dialogue box said no previous version found.  But my computer show my last edition is on 9/22/2016
