I have several programs that seems to be in some conflict with kernelbase.dll. They crash the moment I start them and kernelbase.dll is the fault module.

I've tried installing windows twice but the problem persist.

I've tried running in 'clean boot'.

I've tried 'Windows Resource Protection'

I've tried running the program in different compatability states.

Nothing helps. Any ideas?

The error message is pasted below:

I guess you have answered it yourself. User Profile corruption.

Log in as a different User. rename the problem profile. Log in as the original user again. A new profile will get created. If the crash is gone, copy your over your user data from the corrupted one.

If it does not solve the issue. Repeat steps with default folder too. This is the template profile, when creating new profiles.

regards

Martin

    Hi, friend,

I hope this gives you a solution or more ideas of what to explore.  My couple of solutions are not the best.  I am not familiar with the Spanish keyboard, but only its driver needs to be checked.  Tf the keyboard manufacturer made a drier compatible with Microsoft Windows 7, you have no problem. You might want to go to the manufacturer's website to see if there is an update. Or see if Microsoft.com has their own driver for the keyboard.

After my September 18, 2013 post, three of us found several more conflicts.  We tested 3 computers: 1 with Win XP Professional (had the most problems), 1 with Windows 7 Home Edition (that had corrupted 2 User Profiles and a corrupted the registry), and my Windows 7 Professional (which never had Nero or other CD/DVD applications installed).  My Win7 Pro had Internet Explorer crashes until I went to Internet Explorer, version 10.  So the Win7 Pro was our "control" system for comparison and to see if I could duplicate the problem(s).)

Our experiences below include conflicts we found because I could duplicate the problem on my Win7 Pro computer and some solutions. (Some conflicts we found on different websites with user comments.)

I feel the problem is the order the applications are installed AND the order users do specific commands or tasks in the software appls. The customizations may contribute to it, too.  (I think someone mentioned part of this above.)

    1.  BEST SOLUTION:  Use Windows to burn files to CD/DVD media. Do not use CD/DVD software application unless an important feature is not in Windows.   [[For us, Nero was uninstalled from both computers with the problem.]]

Since Windows 7 lets you drag and drop (or copy and paste) files from its stored location directly to the CD/DVD drive, don't use any CD/DVD creation software unless it has an important feature not found in Windows (Start Menu, "Computer," to see the CD/DVD's drive letter; open the drive, then Drag/drop or copy/paste files to its window.) Then click "Burn."  I've used it successfullly many years on all file types, including videos and music.     [[Verify Windows has drag/drop configured click "Customize" and Scroll 1/3 down the menu. Select/check "Enable context menus and dragging and dropping."

    1. If you must use Nero for a feature, this solution prevents a lot of problems, but it takes more time than most people want to spend on it.

SOLUTION:   A) Create an extra System Restore Point before installing any and every CD/DVD application.  [[Control Panel/System/ click hyperlink on left to "System Protection."  On the System Tab, click "Create" -bottom right- and name the point. Ensure completion message says creation was "successful."   If "unsuccessful," immediately restore to an earlier restoration point, or the problems compound. We had to reinstall Windows because of this.  B) Install Nero (or other).  When finished using it during the current login session, Unintall it.    C) If you want to reinstall it to work more, Shutdown completely. Then boot up and reinstall it.    D) When you are finished with Nero:  BEST SOLUTION:  do a System Restore to the Restore Point you created before installing Nero.  SECOND BEST SOLUtion: just uninstall it.

    3.  Kernel problem.  SOLUTIONS THAT WORKED "MOST" OF THE TIME:   A) Get a clean copy of the kernel file:    Option 1. Download it from Microsoft.com or CNET.com.   Option 2:  If you have a 'good' computer with the same Operating System and version without CD/DVD applications on it, copy its file to removable storage (e.g. flash drive).  On the bad computer, rename the kernel file. Then copy the clean file (with the correct/original filename) into the same folder. Shutdown completely, then boot up.  DISADVANTAGE:  You have to use the computer for a long session or a few times to see if this really fixed your problem.   So far I haven't found a solution that works All the time.

    1. Nero has conflicts when any other CD/DVD application is installed. It has No conflict with Windows' built-in methods to burn files to CDs/DVDs.

       A) If Nero crashes, sometimes Windows Explorer will crash, too, whether Nero is open or closed.

       B)  Nero, Roxio and Cyberlink each change or overwrite some Windows files. However none of them change or overwrite "all" of the same files. So the last CD/DVD application installed changes its 'few' files and "expects" the other Windows files to be the way Windows made it without changes by another software.  When Nero and Roxio and/or Cyberlink were installed, and I did a lot "busy work" in Nero, Nero finally crashed. Once it started to crash, if I immediately re-opened it, it crashed sooner.  Cyberlink froze only a few times.  Roxio could not recognize CDs/DVDs that other computers recognized and used without a problem (happened about4 times).

       C)  When one or more music download applications are installed AFTER Nero is installed, any of those, including Nero MAY crash. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.  But the music download applications have their own conflicts.

      D) Nero did not work properly when we used COMODO security utility.  Nero had intermittent problems with Norton Internet Security (the version was 3 yrs old). It has less problems with the current version of Norton 360.

    POSSIBLE CAUSE:

I suspect the situation described in 4.B is one cause made worse by this second situation:  The order you do tasks in Nero may cause Nero to use one of those 'incompatible' windows files, causing a crash.  But if the applications are installed in a different order and you do the same tasks in Nero in the same order, the crashes may come in a different sequence.

SOLUTIONS WE FOUND:  Get a GOOD Registry Cleaner. Here is what we found best for our usage.   A) "System Mechanic" at iolo.com, both standard and professional versions (both have free trials) do deep, accurate analysis. Overall analysis is automatic;, individual tools for manual tests. Users see detailed problems or items that could be optimized for better performance. Both methods let User choose what to fix, how, when, or ignore.    B) "CCleaner," a totally free utility, also does deep, accurate analysis. But you must change default selections of tests to be done before start the test. Defaults will  automatically clean/delete your shortcuts, customizations, and a few mandatory Windows or software files with 0 bytes.  2 hours reading help files, but topics easy to find.   C) Various security utilities/applicatons have a registry cleaner. But these products focus on security, not registries. Few or no registry items flagged or cleaned; tests not as detailed as 2 products above.

The above are the best 'new' items I can share.  However, below are items you should not overlook for Nero or any other application problems, particularly the Virtual Memory.   Although it is possible that Nero is more sensitive to some of the issues below than  other applications are, I have not seen any tests or results to support that idea.

For ALL the Nero and other application conflicts, investigate these things:

    ---too much clutter or old undeleted files in the search paths;

---cluttered registry with items that applications should have deleted.

    ----fragmented registry

    ----fragmented hard drive

    ----insufficient RAM

----insufficient Virtual Memory (to backup the RAM)

----too many resources diverted to "special effects" such as animation, fading/sliding menu, screen saver slide shows.

----too many unnecessary background files working. In Run.../msconfig, Startup Tab, a list of files automatically installed during software installations are "checked"/selected so they start running at bootup.  Some of these may be print/scanner monitors (which can be started only when you want to use them). Others are Adobe and Java files continuously looking for upgrades. Those can be permanenty disabled because a webpage displays a message if you need to upgrade Adobe or Java.

----In Run.../msconfig, the Services Tab, verify that all the services "checked"/selected are supported by your computer.  I disabled "Smart Card," and "Smart Card Removal" because my computer does not have Smart Card capabilty. And I have no intention of using Adaptive Brightness, so I disabled that.  I knew what I was looking for, but if you do not, then do not touch anything on this tab. A minor mistake could block Windows from working.

----On Internet, www.blackviper.com, click for Windows 7, and see what the default Service settings are.  Compare it to yours.  If you see anything different, verify that a real "dependency" for an application requires your setting.  Also, look at blackviper's "safe" settings.  This website explains what the services do and which can be safely disabled to save your computer's resources and improve performance (and reduce or remove crashes).  One or two of those services are for client/server situations or businesses only.

    LAST SOLUTION THAT WE FOUND:

If working on your computer, install Nero only when you need it, but do it this way.

Shutdown the computer completely. (A cold boot, to completely clear the RAM; 'Restart' does not always clear all the RAM.)  Bootup, create a System Restore point. Install Nero. Shutdown again and boot up again.  Look for any unusual change in its bootup process. If it boots up okay, work in Nero, and just uninstall it when you are finished.  If it boots up with a change or unusual event/action, then Shutdown again.  This time, bootup and KEEP pressing the Function Key that will displays all recovery options (e.g. Repair Startup, Safemode).  Do Repair Startup. If that is not an option, or repair cannot fix it, or repair says it finds no problem, then exit repair and immediately do a System Restore to the Restoration point you created. If you had to restore the point, you are back to the original condition you started with, so you can troubleshoot it anew.

FYI...I say to Shutdown, NOT Restart, because Shutdown (a Cold Boot) will definitely empty everything from RAM.  Restart does not always clear out all the RAM.

    Good luck.

FYI...iTunes, IMesh, Bearshare, and RealPlayer each have conflicts either with each other or with Windows 7, of with some security utility/applications.  My suggestion is to install and use only ONE of these at a time to legally download either free or bought music and make your playlists.  Then uninstall them, and see if you can use all your music in Windows Player Media.
