In the Screen Resolution window, under Change the appearance of your displays , click and drag one of the monitors to its correct location vs. the other one. The Identity numbers don't matter.

Windows 7 - Display 'A' Philips primary display - Display 'B' IBM secondary display. A shows as Identity 2 and B shows as Identity 1. I want to reverse these. Reason is that the cursor currently travels from display B to A and I need it to go the other way - due to physical location of displays

So, what if you wanted the HDMI to stay number one?
That is my issue: My desktop display is DVI. (I've also tried VGA). My intent is to keep this display as number one. It has no sound, so I use speaker outs. Remember, this is display 1.
My second display is HDMI to a big screen. When this display is off, or is switched to a different input, all is right, the computer does not acknowledge it's existence.
When the HDMI device is switched to the PC's input, the primary screen flashes as it loses sync briefly, and comes back as screen identified TWO. The HDMI instead of becoming the second screen grabs screen one.
The issue with this issue is maintaining 'main screen' as make this my main screen. It also affects the audio output in getting the default output to return to the speaker output when the HDMI disappears.
I might add, that in the several years that this thread has been around, I have fixed both the default audio and the (make this the) main screen issues. Still though, having the screen identity changed along with other defaults without command is what started this thread, and is still the case.

2017-01-11T20:24:18+00:00 If I unplug the displayport display from the main power, the HDMI display is set to primary and number one. After that if I plug the displayport display again it is set to 2. And I have to set the right order (for me) in NVCP.

So try this for me: as you have your primary display on display port, & display identified as number two on HDMI, what happens if you turn the display port display off?

2017-01-10T22:03:19+00:00 This works and has been known for a long time. However, as soon as I power down my PC and power it back up again Windows completely re-assigns everything. It has nothing to do with the Video Card Software or the Video Card itself. It's Windows automatically assigning a number to a monitor that doesn't match reality. I have to delete all of the associated information with each Monitor, VR Device, TV, Etc... and then re-plug in each one by one to get Windows to assign them correctly. Even then it only works for that specific session. Turn it off and back on again and everything it back to being all screwed up thanks to Windows.
MICROSOFT GIVE US A WAY TO RE-ASSIGN THEM MANUALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
