A driver service for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. Code 32 (Disc Drive Problem)

Hello,

I just entered a CD into my disc drive and noticed nothing was happening. So I went to manually click on the disc drive itself, and saw that it was completely gone. When going through the troubleshooting process in Windows 7, this note came up:

A driver (service) for this device has been disabled.  An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32).

Obviously I need to re-enable this service, but I am clueless as to which one or how to do so. Any help would be appreciated!

Try the following MS KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Try following the steps for Windows Vista which should also work for Windows 7.

Don't use the fixit option but follow the 12 steps under "Windows Vista" in the article.

Alternatively, copy and paste the following into Notepad and save as a .reg file (save with the .reg extension):

First create a System Restore point then double-click the saved .reg file, add to the registry, and restart the computer.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]"UpperFilters"=-"LowerFilters"=-
