Age of Empires 2 on Windows 7 has color issues

I use this screen resolution window method for windows 7 too, but I have found that it will not work with the Aero desktp backgrounds so I have a theme that has a solid color for a background in the personalize option (find by right clicking on the desktop, sames as screen resolution). I like this method a lot better than killing the explorer process because you can still use other computer programsor check your email without hassle. And you dont have to download anything!

I am running a windows7 64bit with intel hardware.

Hmm.  Good point.  I am a purist as far as desktops go - I have always used solid desktops.  I never used aero and never allow any active desktop components.  Stands to reason, the more complicated your desktop configuration, the more likely the "screen res" solution may not work for you.  Thanks, Skymc.

There are a few things that can be done to correct these 'color issues' with "Age of Empires 2" .

Let's get things rolling here,..................

1. What IS your Graphics/Video-card, that is, what Brand IS it!

(A look into the Device Manager, easily enough, will tell what it is. Write it down , as you'll need this INFO...later!)

2. Now, find "Age of Empires 2" (It will be in the LIST of th PROGRAM FILES, in MY COMPUTER/LOCAL DRIVE C:/.....and, you will need to do a RIGHT-CLICK on this program's main icon. WHY?! To use the 'EXPLORE" option, dummies.)
3. Now, LOOK for the 'README.txt' FOLDER. (Remember me asking you to write down your Graphics/Video-card's DETAILS?)

The README.txt file/folder does CONTAIN information.......on EVERYTHING this game DOES have 'issues' with.

This does INCLUDE  Audio and Graphics (Oh, my, that's your video-card, ain't it???????!)

IT MOST CERTAINLY WILL BE, IF YOURS..........IS IN THE LIST of GRAPHICS-CARDS THIS GAME DOES HAVE ISSUES WITH!

So, whenever you're having trouble with the GRAPHICS, even with the AUDIO, this README.txt file is WHERE you FIRST looking into................to find a SOLUTION, to your problem!

If your Graphics-card is DEFINITELY on the list of 'QUESTIONABLE' graphics-cards (and, most of you will be STILL using the 'ON-BOARD' version, MOST LIKELY the INTEL BRAND, I've got some sad bad news for you. The Intel brand may be OK for GENERAL COMPUTER USE, it is and never has been GREAT as a 'GAMING' OPTION!)

So, what's my solution?

If you're using a lap-top/note-book....as a Gamer, FORGET IT! It will never be a GAMER, so, QUIT now.

If your computer is a DESKTOP unit, GET AWAY from that 'ON-BOARD' Graphics-card, and, UPGRADE to the NEAREST one to WHAT IS DULY RECOMMENDED (for the game!) you can afford.

IF you have already DONE that, and STILL have 'color issues' with this game, then, THERE is DEFINITELY the possibility that YOU have installed the WRONG DRIVERS.....for your Graphics-card.

GET THE RIGHT ONES!!!!!! And, install them.

Or, you can go to the 'Basics', by uninstalling then reinstalling the graphics card/software............as if you're setting up the Graphics-card. For the very first time????

(Which isn't really all that hard to do! And, this DOES include the settings within the game itself, by SIMPLY uninstalling it and starting all over again, too! It is just a game, after all!)

It's your computer, you should KNOW it better (inside-n-out) than anyone else, but, oh, it is so sad .....that most of you certainly DON'T! Which is 'why' most of you who do write in....with a 'problem' you're having with your computer.
