Age of Empires 2 on Windows 7 has color issues

Hello, i want to run Age of Empires 2 on my Windows 7 rc computer. But there are color issuse when i run it, the grass aren't green and the water isent blue. How should i do to fix this? I have try to run it complatify with windows xp service pack 2, and installd some driexct 9 drivers. but not result to better colors. I hope someone have a good answer, because i love this game.

Go into task manager select the processes tab and end explorer.exe then alt-tab back into age of empires

Note: this will make your task bar disapear and any open folders

To restart explorer open the task manager agian in the aplications tab hit new task and type explorer in the box

The colours change because of the Aero theme's poor handling of colours

Edit:

You can also make a batch file with the following lines and place it in the same location as your age of empires 2 executable

taskkill /F /IM Explorer.exe

age2_x1.exe

Start explorer.exe

    tried this and it wouldnt let me save it because it said im not the administrator wich is bs because i am ...any way saved it to desk top instead the just moved it to correct file should work the same i would think ,, god only knows whay it wouldn't let me do it ur way but task accomplished i just did it a little different . thnx for the info

    Amazing! I found a long sought after solution for this that REALLY WORKS!

    You can run Age of Empires II Age of Kings in a WINDOW using the mod downloadable from this site in Brazil:

    http://www.ageofempires2.com.br/?pag=download-aoc-janela and click on "faça o download aqui" to download.

    Unzip to your Age directory and launch the AoC.exe to run. Nothing else necessary!

    go to compatibility and set to windows 95

    This is a truly wonderful game.  I still play it and learn new "tricks" all the time.

    The color issue on Windows 7 is pretty annoying but I have found a solution that works on my hardware that doesn't involve killing explorer, installing additional helper software, or running in some "compatibility" mode.  If I open \Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution (this can be done by right-clicking the desktop and selecting "Screen Resolution") and leave it up while running AOE in full screen mode, the colors are correct.

    I am running Win7 64bit on Intel hardware (DG965WH) with NVIDEA GeForce 7600 GT.  I hope someone else can confirm this behavior and it is of use to the rest of you.
