Connection Problem Troubleshooting - 'The remote device or resource won't accept the connection Detected'

My desktop computer is a Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit. The problem occurred about 2 months ago, while it was still Vista, but please note that I upgraded to Windows 7 last night and the problem is still the same.

My Internet Explorer, computer updates, iTunes, and everything else, EXCEPT my AOL, won't work. My connection says 'excellent'. (Everything on my laptops hooking up to my wireless are working just fine, only my desktop is having this problem)

When I click on Internet Explorer, it says 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage', and when I click 'diagnose connection problem' it says 'Problems found- The remote device or resource won't accept the connection Detected'

I spoke to my Comcast internet provider all morning about this problem: She stated that on her side the internet connections were working properly. She ran me through steps including replugging the router cords, checking how the internet connection is set up, and some other things, but everything was how it was supposed to be. She suggested that maybe AOL could be the issue and to delete it since I was no longer using it, so I did, but nothing has changed. So, then she told me to contact Windows..(not sure how to call Windows technical support without paying $59?, but found this forum)

Is anyone familiar with this problem and could please help, or to at least point me in the right direction?

Also, please let me know if you need any other information about the problem.

Method 8, resetting IE 8 under tools>internet options>advanced>reset  worked for me

    This method did not work for me.  Are there any other solutions?

    I have been running Win7 for couple of months.  I was browsing the web last nite and security page pop up and keep asking me to buy a security program and I found I could not go to most of web sites but I was able to vpn to my work and access no problem.  So I thought it's market scamp.  So I shut down my computer and boot up this morning I found no place I can go.  I was regret I did not download Firefox.   I was trying to scan disk, but it complaints about disk is busy so I chose schedule to run when next reboot.  It did so after I rebooted.  However, 2 of suspicious new programs security warning popped up (stored in AppData) after logged in.  I did not allow them to run and checked the two programs time stamp was last night exact time when I IE got infected.  So I deleted those two files (and there's immediate folder).  Then I rebooted still no luck, then I followed the suggestion from diagnostic reset tools/internet option/advanced tab.  I also checked the security panel(under internet option/advanced tab) about SSL (3.0) and TLS (1.0)

    Reboot computer (now the warning did not pop up after I removed two programs), but IE still no luck.

    I wonder should I reinstall my WIN7?

    Just fixed my friends laptop with this method, tried to avoid as it's not mine, but malware removal alone didn't do it.

    One piece of additional info was that click.w3i.com was at the front of the url for all autpopulated entries in this case.

    After removing malware with windows defender for the 1st user, the click.w3i.com dissapeared off the url line for user1, but still no joy with connecting, not until i reset ie, then user2 all i had to do was reset ie. hth, and this did help me! thx
