Steps to solve the "file is too large for destination file system."

These directions don't work to solve this problem because I cannot "right click on command prompt." I don't see how to do that following the "click System Tools" step.  What should I be looking for? Nothing I click on brings up the "run as adminstrator" option. HELP!!

Let’s try converting the drive to a NTFS and NoSecurity setting. This can be done by:

·         Click the Start Orb

·         Click All Programs

·         Click Accessories

·         Click System Tools

·         Right click Command Prompt

·         Click Run as Administrator

·         Enter the command, convert <drive> /fs:ntfs /nosecurity (<drive should be the drive letter of your external hard drive, for example convert F: /fs:ntfs /nosecurity )

You need to convert your usb drive from FAT32 to NTFS

This is the most easiest and safest way of converting

  1. Right click on usb drive
  2. Click format
  3. Change the type to NTFS

Done!! Now you can copy the files

    Hi Karthik - in my case the failed conversion was due to some disk errors.  The conversion was successful after I rand CHKDSK on the drive.

    Hi

    I'm using Windows8.1pro OS and i have an external hdd (500GB). The drive has 110GB free space. I have tried converting the drive from FAT32 to NTFS via cli using the below commands

    convert J: /fs:ntfs

    convert J: /fs:ntfs /nosecurity

    Both the time the operation failed. The command starts its conversion and in the end it gives the output as "The conversion failed. J: was not converted to NTFS"

    I'd like to convert my hdd to NTFS without formatting the hdd.

    Can anyone help me here?
