Right-click desktop, click View, and uncheck Auto arrange icons.

Can't move shortcut icons on my desktop to different locations on the desktop

I cannot move my desktop shortcut icons around on my desktop. Think it has something to do with the auto-allign feature - how do I fix this ?

2013-10-25T04:00:48+00:00 you probably don't need this answer anymore but i'm just leaving this for someone who might be experiencing the same thing. i had the same problem and i think i know what caused it. mouse wheel button turned out to be stuck so when i disassembled the mouse and released the button icons started moving again. so check your mouses.

2013-11-12T22:48:30+00:00 I had it after I upgraded Windows 8 to 8.1. Nothing was working so on a hunch I uninstalled Stardock's Fences program (v1.0 in my case as I'm too stingy to pay up for v2.x) and it cleared up immediately.
