I cannot move my desktop shortcut icons around on my desktop.  Think it has something to do with the auto-allign feature - how do I fix this ?

Right-click desktop, click View, and uncheck Auto arrange icons.

I have the same problem after a fresh install of Windows 7 on an Acer laptop and using a Logitech wireless mouse.

    .

Using the onboard Acer touch pad  I noticed that I could drag and drop normally. I plugged in an old USB mouse and again found that I could drag and drop. So I suspect the problem is to do with the re-installed OS and its recognition of the wireless mouse. Downloading up to date drivers and software for the Logitech mouse didn't help but might do for others. If you can't put up with the annoyance of being unable to arrange the icons as you wish, maybe a new mouse will do the trick. You might check by borrowing a mouse and trying it out.
