Windows 7 Reboot loop - Safe mode doesn't work

We are having some major problems with several of our computers.

Two different models running Windows 7: HP dc5100 and HP dx2250

They turn on, reach the "Starting Windows" splash screen, go blank and immediately restart in an endless loop.

I have tried Safe Mode with no luck. It stops at "CLASSPNP.SYS" and then restarts once again into the endless loop.

I have also tried a startup repair with the Windows 7 DVD. It is unable to do a startup repair and comes up with this error message:

Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline

Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem Signature 03: Unknown

Problem Signature 04: 21201148

Problem Signature 05: External Media

Problem Signature 06: 5

OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

Locale: 1033

I have also seen a BSOD come up at random times right after the Windows splash screen that says "PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED 0x0000006B (0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)." That's if i can read it fast enough before it reboots!

If ANYONE has some suggestions, please let me know! We have several computers at various locations all having the same problem! The last thing I want to do is reload all of these computers after meticulously backing up files from the hard drives!

ALSO: All of these were done with a clean install. No upgrades. Windows 7 was installed on here over a month ago with no problems until today. No additional hardware installed.

Hi.

This is a workaround that works for us:

  1. delete bootcat.cashe from C:\windows\system32\codeintegrity. on broken pc.

        the file is 384 bytes when broken , is 2,344,056 when OK. is beeing recreated when booting.

  1. copy from a ok pc c:\windows\system32\catroot{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\ to broken pc.
  2. restart.

I can`t say this is 100%, but for us with the same hardware it seems to work find.

We have not been able to find out the roor course.

Hi, We have15 Lenovo x201s that have the issue and the fix works. I have documented it, you can pretty it up if you would like.

We also Have SEP ver 11.0...

Boot machine and once you see the  logo press F12 to enter the boot menu.

Within boot menu toggle down to USB(setup with Win7 media set to bootable) and or location of Windows 7 media DVD

Install windows window opens accept defaults and press Next

In this window on the lower left side click Repair your computer

System Recovery options window opens and a 2<sup>nd</sup> window that is searching for problem

Once the search finishes you have an option of Repair and restart or No Click No

In System Recovery Options Window click Next

2 Startup Repair Windows opens in 2<sup>nd</sup> Startup Repair Window click cancel

Attempting Repairs runs When Complete click cancel a System Recovery Options window opens

Click on Command Prompt

You will see X:\Sources>

Type C: and click enter

Type cd \Windows\system32\CodeIntegrity then click Enter

Type Del boot bootcat.cache then click Enter

Type CD \ and click Enter

You should now be at C:

Type Exit then click Enter

Click restart

Logon to Windows as administrator

Copy the file from a known good machine c:\windows\system32\catroot{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\ to broken pc and replace

Reboot

    We've had 2 this week here. It seems to be slowing down some.

    Overall damage is around 30.

    It was bad at first to the point where everyone is scared to restart their computers now.

     It's almost as if there is some update happened in the background. The only software that I can think of that we have that would do that is SEP.

    Ok. Thanks for the info.

    We have had a total of 29 BSOD. 12 this week. But nothing since tuesday. This is approximately 20% of all computers with W7 32bits.

    Hi.

    Microsoft is still working on the case trying to find out the cause of the problem, some files are overwritten that is needed for the boot process.

    This week there has been only 1 BSOD by us, have you gotten any more?
