So it seems MS has a problem with " usb device not recognized in windows 7 ". A Google search will find no real solutions to the problem. I haven't found one hear ether. How can I have a handful of flash drives and external hard drives that will not work on only 2 Win7 systems that I know of ,yet work on others ? I never needed to download drivers from anyone to make them work on any other OS . I just plug them in and the work ... THE 1st TIME... not after trying all things that don't.  This is something that needs a REAL FIX. I should not have to pay Tech Support to find out why. This is clearly an OS Win7 problem. Thanks     This is real FRUSTRATING

Hi DJBigBang,

1. Have any USB or external drives worked on your computer? 2. What is the make and model of your computer?

As all the hardware devices have drivers associated similarly USB devices also have it. Sometimes proper drivers do not get detected after the initial installation so reinstallation of the drivers helps resolve the issues.

You may check after uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers if you are able to connect. You may disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

1.     ClickStart, and then click Control Panel.

2.     ClickSystem and Maintenance, click System, and then clickDevice Manager.

Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-clickSystem, and then click Device Manager.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or clickAllow.

**3.**In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

Check if at all there is an exclamation mark along the driver, it suggests issues with the driver installed.

4.     Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

If you still face the same issue then you may check for the updated USB device drivers using windows update. Refer to the below link for assistance–

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

If the issue sill persists I would request you to check for chipset driver updates which you can get at the manufacturer website. The chipset drivers normally incorporate USB controller drivers as well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hello DJBigBang,

There is an old Windows XP KB article that was recently updated with multiple steps to resolve these types of issues. The KB covers Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 with step by step methods. See if this helps.

    Hello Mitchell,

I read your recent entry to this thread and had a few questions for you that may or may not help you resolve this issue...

First, have you tried unplugging your web cam and then plugging an entirely different USB device into the same USB port that the web cam was connected to? I want to eliminate any possibility of the port being the issue (though that's unlikely).

Also, when you installed the camera, did you follow the installation instructions that came with the device exactly, step by step?

If the two questions above do not yield any additional information to help you pursue a remedy, then the best advice I could give you would be to call Logitech (if you already haven't) and speak to their tech support department. Depending on how "recent" the purchase of this camera was, it sounds like it should be well within the initial warranty period and, as such, eligible for free technical support assistance from Logitech. They should be able to help you resolve the problem if it's a software issue - but, then again, there is also the remote possibility that you may have gotten a defective camera.... I think calling Logitech would be your best bet (again, that presumes you haven't done so already). And if you have called them already, what troubleshooting steps did they take to help you resolve your issue?

    Mark

Hi mark, thankyou for the reply!

Yeah i have tried those steps many times before as i said its a very complex issue, the most annoying thing is i cannot find any information about what the Logitech Process Monitor is on google and if i can fix it my self, is it in your knowledge or anyone you know to help?, its easter weekend so i wont be able to contact logitech support till next week, but yeah no i am certain its not a defective camera because the reason i bought this new webcam was cause i didnt know if it was the webcam itsself, but if you dont know anything logitech is my next luck if not ill have to may to get microsoft to fix it
