usb device not recognized in windows 7

So it seems MS has a problem with " usb device not recognized in windows 7 ". A Google search will find no real solutions to the problem. I haven't found one hear ether. How can I have a handful of flash drives and external hard drives that will not work on only 2 Win7 systems that I know of ,yet work on others ? I never needed to download drivers from anyone to make them work on any other OS . I just plug them in and the work ... THE 1st TIME... not after trying all things that don't. This is something that needs a REAL FIX. I should not have to pay Tech Support to find out why. This is clearly an OS Win7 problem. Thanks This is real FRUSTRATING

1. Have any USB or external drives worked on your computer? 2. What is the make and model of your computer?

As all the hardware devices have drivers associated similarly USB devices also have it. Sometimes proper drivers do not get detected after the initial installation so reinstallation of the drivers helps resolve the issues.

You may check after uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers if you are able to connect. You may disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

1. ClickStart, and then click Control Panel.

2. ClickSystem and Maintenance, click System, and then clickDevice Manager.

Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-clickSystem, and then click Device Manager.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or clickAllow.

**3.**In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

Check if at all there is an exclamation mark along the driver, it suggests issues with the driver installed.

4. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

If you still face the same issue then you may check for the updated USB device drivers using windows update. Refer to the below link for assistance–

If the issue sill persists I would request you to check for chipset driver updates which you can get at the manufacturer website. The chipset drivers normally incorporate USB controller drivers as well.

They do want you to upgrade, but not because of intentional bugs. 8 also has its problems. In fact, the PC itself is unreliable by design. I believe some of these problems we see on the internet that apparently have no solution are due to user error, phantom error, dying power supplies, faulty components and connections, lack of transient voltage suppression device, not installing updates, etc.

Did you know standard memory modules produce errors all by themselves, even if they are new? Even ECC modules cannot be 100% immune to errors.

I have had to do two clean installs in a row because the first one would not go through. The second time it went perfect. So imagine what can happen when a complicated OS is running 24/7/365.

MS strongly recommends installing anti-virus software. Many skip this, then install all kinds of freeware, and log onto (less than noble) sites, then wonder why they have problems.

In my case, I have no idea what the magic bullet was because I had made so many changes in the BIOS and the OS and did not record what I did. I remembered that "Legacy USB Support" was to make the machine be able to boot from a USB drive, like for reflashing the BIOS, for example. Apparently, when I turned that on, everything in Windows World was beautiful again! I myself rushed to condemn MS out of frustration.

In defense of the MS officials rendering their support advice. I would suggest you follow theirs--by the letter--first before taking drastic steps afforded by anonymous "experts" claiming their solution works.

I noticed their "first-steps" advice is conservative; a wise approach. In many cases, resetting things causes the overwriting of files, which may have become corrupted. All you need is a one-bit error to ruin the operability of any OS.

Sometimes a clean install is the best, or at least the fastest, alternative. As such, I am always prepared to do so in a streamlined fashion. Except for the reinstallation of my programs, everything else is restored in short order. I have backups of not only the entire image (if I choose to go that way), but separate backups of my Desktop, passwords to my sites, IE Favorites, and what have you, all on another drive.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been searching for answers for 2 days and this was considered to be my last try!!!!!! but omg thank you veryyyyyyyyy much omg , this really helped...you know I had a problem with my phone which was on recovery mode and was not getting connected to my laptop at the same time so it was really confusing, I checked some answers and they all said I should update itunes,check for apple mobile device support , then checked some answers talking about holding off/on buttons along with the middle button but nothing worked with me!!!!! I was about to hit my phone to the floor ahha omg thank you very much!!!!! I entered into device manager and uninstalled the USB related to my Iphone then plugged the usb chord of my iphone to my pc then an " installing box" suddenly appeared! I didn't believe it!! and at the same time I was hoping for a successful installment of my phonee usb and it worked!!!!!!! then itunes recognized it automatically and now I'm doing the restore process thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this was so much helpful!!

oh to be honest with you at first I was like no your method will not work but it workeddddddd thank youu!!!!!!! you relieved me!! now that I got rid of this problem, I can go solve my washing machine problem :D
