So it seems MS has a problem with " usb device not recognized in windows 7 ". A Google search will find no real solutions to the problem. I haven't found one hear ether. How can I have a handful of flash drives and external hard drives that will not work on only 2 Win7 systems that I know of ,yet work on others ? I never needed to download drivers from anyone to make them work on any other OS . I just plug them in and the work ... THE 1st TIME... not after trying all things that don't.  This is something that needs a REAL FIX. I should not have to pay Tech Support to find out why. This is clearly an OS Win7 problem. Thanks     This is real FRUSTRATING

Hi DJBigBang,

1. Have any USB or external drives worked on your computer? 2. What is the make and model of your computer?

As all the hardware devices have drivers associated similarly USB devices also have it. Sometimes proper drivers do not get detected after the initial installation so reinstallation of the drivers helps resolve the issues.

You may check after uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers if you are able to connect. You may disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

1.     ClickStart, and then click Control Panel.

2.     ClickSystem and Maintenance, click System, and then clickDevice Manager.

Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-clickSystem, and then click Device Manager.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or clickAllow.

**3.**In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

Check if at all there is an exclamation mark along the driver, it suggests issues with the driver installed.

4.     Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

If you still face the same issue then you may check for the updated USB device drivers using windows update. Refer to the below link for assistance–

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

If the issue sill persists I would request you to check for chipset driver updates which you can get at the manufacturer website. The chipset drivers normally incorporate USB controller drivers as well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hello DJBigBang,

There is an old Windows XP KB article that was recently updated with multiple steps to resolve these types of issues. The KB covers Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 with step by step methods. See if this helps.

Hi mark, thankyou for the reply!

Yeah i have tried those steps many times before as i said its a very complex issue, the most annoying thing is i cannot find any information about what the Logitech Process Monitor is on google and if i can fix it my self, is it in your knowledge or anyone you know to help?, its easter weekend so i wont be able to contact logitech support till next week, but yeah no i am certain its not a defective camera because the reason i bought this new webcam was cause i didnt know if it was the webcam itsself, but if you dont know anything logitech is my next luck if not ill have to may to get microsoft to fix it

    Mitchell,

Not sure if you've resolved your problem or not yet - or whether or not contact with logitech or MS was made....

But I recall your saying that you did a Google search on the issue and couldn't find much. So, on a hunch, I did a Bing search using the words "logitech process monitor missing" for my search parameter. I got an interesting list of results (http://www.bing.com/search?q=logitech+process+monitor+missing&qs=n&form=QBLH&pq=logitech+process+monitor+missing&sc=0-25&sp=-1&sk=&cvid=7a25e745e5a144e899cf5fd75183bfa6).

Of particular interest (to me) was the first entry from Bleeping computer: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/LVPrcSrv.exe-20289.html. In this article they make reference to a start up service that is required to start with windows in order for the Logitech Process Monitor to function. That service is called LVPrcSrv.exe. And that got me to thinking....

Are you aware of this service? Also, are you fluent on how to bring up the MS list of registered services (run> services.msc) to check to see if it's even listed? It should be listed and the start up status should be identified as "automatic" (not "Automatic (delayed)").

If you haven't already done so I'd suggest you pull up the service list by clicking on the start button, then "Run" then type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) and hit the enter key on your keyboard or left-click on "OK". That will bring up a list of the list of services that are installed on your machine. Once you have the list on your screen, look toward the bottom of that window where you'll see 2 tabs, one marked "Standard" and the other marked "Extended". Make sure that "Extended" is selected (you do so by clicking on the tab). Once that's confirmed, then look at the list of services (it helps to enlarge the window fully). At the top of the list you'll see columns - look for the one marked "Name". Left click on it - this will ensure that the list is alphabetically sorted. Now work up or down the list to the services starting with the letter "L" and see if you find LVPrcSrv.exe. If it's there, RIGHT click on the service and then LEFT click on PROPERTIES. A properties dialog box should open for that service. Make sure that the "General" tab at the top of the window is selected (the properties dialog box should open with the "General" tab selected by default - but if it isn't, left click on that tab to select it). Now look towards the middle of the data and you'll see a notation marked "Startup type" with a drop-down menu to its right. If the service is found in your list, the start up type should be "Automatic" [not "Automatic (delayed) or anything else]. If needed - set to automatic, then click "OK". Close down the Services window, save your work and then re-boot.

Let me know what you find (or have found if you've done this already). Also let me know if you ever tried making contact with Logitech's tech support department as I suggested earlier and, if so, what they had to say.

    Mark
