When I try to "Find Printer (in MSWord, e.g.) I get the message: The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable.

I'm running Vista Ultimate (SP2) on a home network; and I'm the Administrator.

How do I make the ADDS available?

Hello Dick Bard,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Answers forum! To add to Lorie – One’s suggestion, please try following the steps below:

>Go to Control Panel

> Select Printers

> Right-click on Add Printer

> Select Run as Administrator

Now try to add your network printer.

Please let me know if this helps J

    Add network printer manually

    1. Find printer IP address
    2. Open <Add a printer> in <Devices and Printers>
    3. Click on <The printer that I want isn't listed>
    4. Choose <Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname> and click <Next>
    5. Type in IP addrss and click <Next>
    6. Follow the steps after that...

Hey everyone, I just had the same problem, but it turned out to be the file I was trying to print. I had a WORD doc emailed to me, opened it with WORD, tried to print, but nothing happened and it gave me the same error. I tried ALL solutions across several different forums and nothing worked. God Bless my wife, she suggested copying the text to another blank WORD page and it worked! (This was based on problems she's had with strange formats not working on her laptop.

    Try that, folks!
