When I try to "Find Printer (in MSWord, e.g.) I get the message: The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable.

I'm running Vista Ultimate (SP2) on a home network; and I'm the Administrator.

How do I make the ADDS available?

Hello Dick Bard,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Answers forum! To add to Lorie – One’s suggestion, please try following the steps below:

>Go to Control Panel

> Select Printers

> Right-click on Add Printer

> Select Run as Administrator

Now try to add your network printer.

Please let me know if this helps J

I'm running Windows 8 and had similar problems when printing from Word 2010 for the first time.  My solution was to go in through the Control Panel, then Add Printer and for some reason Windows was then able to detect the printers.

Note that many have forgotten to add:

the correct printer driver must be loaded into the computer sending the doc to the printer connected to the other computer on the network.

Have spent the whole morning with the Microsoft Windows 7 team having been sent there by the Home Office 365 team because of this print problem. Just tried deactivating Norton 360 and my printer has started to print again!!! Thank you.

However, what does this mean? I hope to find out sometime.

But - Thank you Will L Library and Coach Carl
