How many passes before defrag finishes?

I am try to defrag my hard drive. It's on its 4th pass in 24 hours. How many passes does it make before it's done?

have seen as high as 7.

they seem to get faster the further along it goes.

look into using AUSLOGICS degragger instead.

faster and also has an option to move system files to the front.

My 3TB drive is reported as being 100% fragmented.

Thus it took about 10 hours to get to pass 7.

The only problem is that my 3TB drive only has 700GB of data on it.

So the 100% fragmented is total buggy **** and I aborted the defragmentation process.

Question from a logical point of view:

Wouldnt copying the files to a backup drive, formatting the original drive and copying the files back solve the entire issue much quicker? And within a predictable timeframe? Why even bother with this **** routine?

I don't think your 3TB drive is being reported as 100% fragmented. What you probably have is a small drive labeled "System" that's reported as being at 100%. This can be confirmed by looking at Disk Management. Leave it alone and stop worrying about fragmentation in general--it's not that significant. Ut should be a concern only if you're experiencing performance issues that might be attributed to file fragmentation.

Mine took 15 passes, 10 minutes for 1 TB harddisk
