have seen as high as 7.

they seem to get faster the further along it goes.

look into using AUSLOGICS degragger instead.

faster and also has an option to move system files to the front.

* Programs you are having problems with

* Error messages

* Recent changes you made to your computer

* What you have already tried to fix the problem

    Thanks for the info. Mine is going through pass 6 right now and is moving right along compared to earlier passes. Will look into AUSLOGICS

    bad idea, if you look at the actual tests you find that defrag voodoo is defrag voodoo, it takes X amount of time to move data, you can only be so clever.

    that is an actual comparison where they bothered to do  actual tests..and guess what, almost no difference at all;)  just stick with the microsoft one since it knows what its doing.

    you can always be faster, at the cost of being less thorough.

    I have a 300GB Harddrive running Windows 7. The number of passes and speed of the passes is determined by the amount of fragmented data. I usually defrag once a month and its usually 3-5 percent. It only took a few passes and finished in under an hour. If defrag takes super long, its because your computer needs it super bad.
