I am try to defrag my hard drive. It's on its 4th pass in 24 hours. How many passes does it make before it's done?

have seen as high as 7.

they seem to get faster the further along it goes.

look into using AUSLOGICS degragger instead.

faster and also has an option to move system files to the front.

    I've been letting my computer defrag for about 48 hours now.  It's on pass 8 now.  it says it's still running but the percent hasn't changed for the last hour.  Wish it showed a bit more information.

    Thanks for the info. Mine is going through pass 6 right now and is moving right along compared to earlier passes. Will look into AUSLOGICS

    bad idea, if you look at the actual tests you find that defrag voodoo is defrag voodoo, it takes X amount of time to move data, you can only be so clever.

    that is an actual comparison where they bothered to do  actual tests..and guess what, almost no difference at all;)  just stick with the microsoft one since it knows what its doing.

    you can always be faster, at the cost of being less thorough.

    good! try to run a disk scan you find it right clicking c and to tools it does fix things

    defragments processed 10 timesin one hour after iolio mechanic program creans registery and mcafee fire wall won't work afterwarcs so i have to system restore to closest restore then it is fine Iolio mechanic service suggests to run at windows EX service pack 2 even though i have windows sercive pack 1 instarted in my windoes 7 89 x service pack 1
