have seen as high as 7.

they seem to get faster the further along it goes.

look into using AUSLOGICS degragger instead.

faster and also has an option to move system files to the front.

My windows 7 pro laptop has 8 passes on the c drive/hardrive partition used. This does not include the partition sets for making a backup copy of the system. The former can e selected either after the C drive is defragmented manually or all partitions can be selected at once in a regularly occuring defragmentation schedule. The hard drive is 91GB. Timing will depend on drive size.

I am currently on my 19th pass in over 14 hours.

    How long is long enough?

Or does it complete by itself?

It would be nice to know.

    Joe

i7 processor w/ 4GB RAM.  240GB HD is on pass 4,688: 1% consolidated after 74 days.  My HD will be wore out before this completes.  Maybe MS has an agreement with drive manufactures to increase wear and tear...

    Damn
