have seen as high as 7.

they seem to get faster the further along it goes.

look into using AUSLOGICS degragger instead.

faster and also has an option to move system files to the front.

I use Windows 8, and my defrag went up to 10 passes. It was the first time I used the defrag on this computer, so I'm not sure if it goes higher or not. It didn't take that long either. It ran for, like, 45-60 minutes.

    http://www.winhelp.us/index.php/windows/enhancing-windows-performance.html/set-paging-file-to-a-fixed-size-in-windows.html

Setting a  fixed pagefile and and having it contiguous ( in one Block ) can be difficult where the free disk space is less than 50%. Achieving may also be more difficult if you rely on the Windows provided defragmenter to defragment.

I've had 37 passes in about half an hour, it seems like it could go up to anything.

And Gerry, yes good point. I wasn't multi-tasking and unfortunately don't understand "windows managed pagefile or a fixed size pagefile".
