Compatibility Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 vs. Windows 7

I installed MS Flight Simulator in Windows 7. The installation went smoothly. 

And I could start MS Flight Simulator up till the Homepage appeared.

BUT: when opening "videoparts" (i.e. the instruction at the start, parts of MS FS with moving pictures) the programme closed and a message said:

**"A problem has occurred. The programme doesnt work well anymore. The programme will be closed."**I tried to find if anything was wrong with the compatibility. But everyhting seems fine.

I hope someone can help me with my favourite game-programme.

All I can think of now is to update your video drivers.

If it still doesn't work, then unfortunately it's something wrong with your computer because it states here that FS2004 is fully compatible with Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit):

    I have been trying to install FS2004 on my laptop with Windows7 and it gets to 77% and goes no farther, it tells me to retry or abort and the dvd drive starts clicking.  How do I fix this??

    Crystal - I too haven't used my FS2004 in awhile and tried this evening to use it and could not get it to open from the desktop shortcut. I uninstalled the program, re-installed it and when trying to open, program said access denied, "Please login with Administrator Privileges" Could not figure out how I do that, so I googled the error message and low and behold, there were instructions to delete Microsoft updates KB2919355 and KB3086255. Apparently these two updates will keep older programs purchased by retail from loading. Some think it is a plot by Microsoft which sounds a little far fetched, but I went into control panel, found my list of installed updates and could only find the KB3086255 which I deleted. My FS2004 loaded and I am flying again. Hope this works for you as well. Don't forget to load the FS 9.1 update to the program! - Rick

    And me too! I had exactly the same problem. I have two laptops tht are both under 3 months old, one with Vista Premium and another with windows 7, both acer high spec. On one (Win7) playing instructional videos crashes the game and in the other (Windows vista) it won't install past 77-78 % like another post above this one said. Can someoone at Microsoft tell s a way to fix this because I really want to learn to fly! Otherwise it will be a complete waste of money and make me wary of buyng Microsoft software in future when they say something is compatible when it actually isn't. My PC doesn't need defragmenting, it's new and with minimal use, there's nothing to defrag! Please please someone suggest a solution to this...

    First of all, after installing any application or game, you should defragment your drive. This can resolve many issues with games not working correctly. I remember the first couple times playing GTA IV, it would crash after five minutes. I defragged my drive and it never crashed after that. To defrag your drive, type defragment in the start menu search box. Click defragment your hard drive . If you have a third-party program (Perfectdisk, Diskeeper) then use that instead. If after defragging your drive FS 2004 still crashes, try this:

    Right click on the game shortcut and select properties . In the new window that opens, select the tab named compatibility . Under Run this program in compatibility mode , tick the box and in the drop-down box, select the version of Windows that the game operated correctly on (ex: If it worked on Windows XP SP3, select Windows XP SP3). Then at the bottom, tick the box that says Run as an administrator .
