trying to get replacement USB transceiver for my wireless keyboard

I've lost the USB transceiver for my wireless keyboard/mouse set, trying to find out where I can get a replacement for it without having to get a whole new keyboard & mouse just for that one transceiver.

Microsoft Natural Wireless Ergonomic Keyboard 7000

Transceiver says "Microsoft 2.4GHz Transceiver v2.0"

I talked with Microsoft today and, yes, the person who answered stated that there are NO replacements for the receiver, and I would have to buy a new set up.  After asking to talk to someone who had some technical knowledge and getting no where, I asked for a supervisor.  I was on hold for several minutes, but I was not going to give up.  Finally a supervisor answered and after explaining that I knew something about computers, he offered to send me a whole new unit, free of charge.  And to top that off, he said he would expidite the order and it would ship to me in 1 - 3 days. 

The number that I called is 800-360-7561, option 2.  Make sure that you ask to talk to a supervisor, as the people that answer haven't a clue.  They just read off of a script.  I hope that this helps someone out there.  Microsoft wants to keep their ccustomers and WILL do what it takes to keep them.

    Actually, quality businesses that make duplicates of the same sets do allow you to purchase a single duplicate lost earring.  James Avery is one such business. I do think that an expensive ($129 full retail) wireless keyboard with a rather long USB transceiver should have a replacement option.  Mine is "lost," the main reason being that I haul my laptop from college to XC meets to choral society to library to home, and I would disconnect that USB as it stuck out so much that I was afraid that my USB port would get bent from the joggles while in a laptop bag.  From above replies, that is exactly what happened to some. So the design flaws are 1)the thing is so long that reasonable people remove it to protect the "more expensive" laptops when in transit and 2) having designed it to be so long, no easy replacement process was designed for inevitable losses.  Seriously? Microsoft- either make the USB tranceivers small enough that people feel ok leaving it permanently attached to their laptops OR devise a replacement option.

    I think millions of MS users worldwide having the same problem including myself... I suggest, don't be bothered by this marketing strategy. just like me, what I did?  thrown away its transceiver, removed the battery from keyboard and mouse, wrapped it nicely since it still looks good as I took care of it  so it will not get damage earlier than its age.. but its transceiver is unpredictable! What can I do? I don't want to be stressed and ruin my health just for this simple stuff... just think this way. we are part of their business, somehow we're contributing indirectly towards MS success. Hoping someday Microsoft finds solution on this matter.. cheers....have a great day ahead.

    `Oh yes, I found that out several years ago. If the receiver is lost or broken pick up your keyboard and mouse combo and head directly to your trash can.  Drop both in because they are utterly useless now.  Do not stop at Go.  I'm on my third pair now of the Microsoft 5000 keyboard because I just can't find anything I like better.  The keyboard, not the mouse. The mouse dies early on when the rubber on the top wheel falls off.  

    Oh and what the person said about talking to a supervisor.  Absolutely correct.   Good luck.

    WOW - I called and basically I was informed that this equipment is rendered useless if you misplace this one inch piece of plastic.

    When I asked for a supervisor the customer service (I use this term very loosely) said, "Why, so you can hear what you want to hear?" I was like - YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I explained how rude this was to say such a thing, then bid her farewell. 

    MINUTES later she calls back, what nerve! I didn't answer, no need to prolong this discourse. After all this, I now know what kind of wireless keyboards to avoid.....
