You can save custom desktop icon position and restore it when needed, using the Layout.dll shell extension from Microsoft. REF:Save and Restore Desktop icon layout in Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7. Or try DesktopOK Freeware - save and restore desktop icons.

    Me too I was searching for a reliable solution for this icon layout problem, and found one works with my 64bit, I want to share it wirth you guys, its named DeskInstU64 you can download it from here

    This worked perfectly on Windows 7 64 bit. Doesn't seem to have come with any BS either. Thank you!

    DesktopOK does NOT work on WIndows 10 or 32 bit OS.
