I HAVE A VISTA HOME PREMIUM COMPUTER. I UPGRADED THE JAVA TO 6U13. AFTER THE UPGRADE THE JAVA WOULDN'T WORK. I CALLED HP AND IT WAS DECIDED TO RESTORE THE COMP TO THE ORIGIONAL STATE WHEN BOUGHT AND WAS TOLD TO REDOWNLOAD JAVA, BUT FIRST I DID ALL THE WINDOWS UPDATES FIRST. THEN DOWNLOADED THE JAVA AND STILL DIDN'T WORK. UNINSTALLED AND DOWNLOADED AN EARLIER VERSION STILL DIDN'T WORK. THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR I DISCOVERED THAT THE JAVA ICON WAS NOT IN THE INTERNET OPTIONS ON THE ADVANCED TAB. CALLED HP BACK AGAIN AND THEY WENT THROUGH THE SECURITY WITH ME AND TOLD ME TO REDOWNLOAD IT AGAIN AND THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I WENT TO JAVA .COM FOR THE DOWNLOAD. CHECKED THE VIRTUAL MACHINE AND THE MAN DANCED SAID IT WAS WORKING PROPERLY. i FOUND THE 6U13 IN THE CONTROL PANEL AND IN THE ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS. I WAS TOLD TO GO TO THE START AND TYPE IN JAVA. THE RESULTS WAS NO ITEMS FOUND. THEN WAS TOLD THAT IT DOWNLOADED TO THE COMP BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHERE. IT MUST HAVE NOT DOWNLOADED TO C DRIVE. ALSO WHEN THE COMP WAS RECOVERED EVEN THOUGH I HAD THR DISC TO THE PRINTER IT SAID IT WASN'T COMPATABLE HAD TO GO AND DOWNLOAD THE DRIVER OFF THE INTERNET TO GET IT TO WORK. ALSO ONCE THE JAVA WAS LOADED IT SAID IT WASN'T COMPATABLE THATS WHY I WENT TO AN EARLIER VERSION. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT THE INTERNET PROVIDER IS AOL. THANK YOU

FWIW, a nunber of the Tube sites have recently put up banners indicating that video streaming is now broken in IE8 as a result of a "recent Microsoft update" and that folks should use either an older version of IE8 or a different browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) for the time being until the issue is resolved.

I have given up on trying to use Vista, IE7 to get into pogo. Pogo was super enough to give me an extra 6 months of service at no charge. They also removed the option of charging my account automatically. So I just go to Mozilla firefox and everything works great. If anyone does discover the problem, with using vista, then please include me with the feedback. Note: I have tried using IE8 but have been told that there's an awful lot of bugs in that system that needs fixing so I removed it and went back to IE7.

Im not sure if you have been able to fix your computer yet, but I was having the SAME problem. I tooled around with it a while till I got the peroblem fixed myself. I have the same O.S this is what you need to do.
Open a internet Explorer tab
------click on the tools tab
---------click on the programs tab and then click Manage add-ons
Scroll all the way down until you get to the java apps. if any of them are disabled click on it once then click the enable tab then O.K
That should fix your problem it did mine. then go to the java test site you should see the picture in the box now. GoodLuck
Hal-I have the same problem with not being able to play videos on other sites, not just utube. Went to view avideo about dog acupressure-same thing. Uninstalled again, went to adobe site to download an older version and got hung up every time. Page never loaded. When I went to end the process, program (IE) was not responding, but only on the adobe site.
