I HAVE A VISTA HOME PREMIUM COMPUTER. I UPGRADED THE JAVA TO 6U13. AFTER THE UPGRADE THE JAVA WOULDN'T WORK. I CALLED HP AND IT WAS DECIDED TO RESTORE THE COMP TO THE ORIGIONAL STATE WHEN BOUGHT AND WAS TOLD TO REDOWNLOAD JAVA, BUT FIRST I DID ALL THE WINDOWS UPDATES FIRST. THEN DOWNLOADED THE JAVA AND STILL DIDN'T WORK. UNINSTALLED AND DOWNLOADED AN EARLIER VERSION STILL DIDN'T WORK. THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR I DISCOVERED THAT THE JAVA ICON WAS NOT IN THE INTERNET OPTIONS ON THE ADVANCED TAB. CALLED HP BACK AGAIN AND THEY WENT THROUGH THE SECURITY WITH ME AND TOLD ME TO REDOWNLOAD IT AGAIN AND THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I WENT TO JAVA .COM FOR THE DOWNLOAD. CHECKED THE VIRTUAL MACHINE AND THE MAN DANCED SAID IT WAS WORKING PROPERLY. i FOUND THE 6U13 IN THE CONTROL PANEL AND IN THE ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS. I WAS TOLD TO GO TO THE START AND TYPE IN JAVA. THE RESULTS WAS NO ITEMS FOUND. THEN WAS TOLD THAT IT DOWNLOADED TO THE COMP BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHERE. IT MUST HAVE NOT DOWNLOADED TO C DRIVE. ALSO WHEN THE COMP WAS RECOVERED EVEN THOUGH I HAD THR DISC TO THE PRINTER IT SAID IT WASN'T COMPATABLE HAD TO GO AND DOWNLOAD THE DRIVER OFF THE INTERNET TO GET IT TO WORK. ALSO ONCE THE JAVA WAS LOADED IT SAID IT WASN'T COMPATABLE THATS WHY I WENT TO AN EARLIER VERSION. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT THE INTERNET PROVIDER IS AOL. THANK YOU

Well, use this anti-virus microsoft essential security instead of AVG. use this link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials to find Java Go to click on Start left hand lower corner of your computer then click on Control Panel you will see Java icon
I just paid for AVG. I was just placing that scenario on the table in case someone wanted to think they solved the issue with it being the AV blocking, which has already been posted.
I see that I accidently typed in Java Console instead of Java Control Panel, my mistake. But I did mention that I was looking in and for some reason the part of the Java Control Panel, advanced options for browsers will not allow Internet Explorer to use Java. It is grayed out so it can not be chosen for use. I have even changed it so that Internet Explorer is my default browser instead of Firefox and then restarted the comptuer. Internet Explorer is still grayed out for browser options for Java control panel.
You would think that someone at Microsoft would know how to fix this. Especially since this has been going on for almost a year and half now.

buy a new computer or upgrade next windows release. That would completely solve it.
It is less then 2 years old now. I had it for about 3 months when this started. and as you can see I am not the only one having this same problem. A few with slightly different situation have been able to fix theirs, but mine apparently wishes to be different also. Either way I was hoping that someone from Microsoft actually figured this out in the last year or so, but I guess I was hoping for too much from them.
