**Original Title**nvlddmkm.sys causes BSOD

Hi,

I can't start Vista since a week or so. Just before the login screen should apear, it crashes into a BSOD, reporting that the problem is the nvlddmkm.sys driver.

I've been checking the Internet for days now (a lot of forums), and it seems to be a "common" problem, occuring with all kinds hardware and software configurations. I've tried just about everything to fix it, but nothing seems to work.

Is there a solution for this problem?

Hi Maarte61,

Sorry to your having so much trouble. Since your having the same issue even when the driver was rolled back, it leads me to believe even more so, that it could be card itself. You might try contacting the cards manufacturer. We could rule this out though, if you have another video card we can try. Do you have one you could test?

Thanks again,

Jason

Hi Maarte61,

Unfortunately, my guess would be the driver or the card itself. Since it worked fine for while, then just stopped. My best guess would be the card's the issue. Can you cancel the driver install when you get to normal mode? If so, I would try canceling it and downloading the new driver. Or if your in "Safe mode with networking" I'd go ahead and download them them and have them ready. So if you can cancel, you wouldn't have to go download them. Let us know and thanks again for posting.

Thanks,

Jason

    Hi crash0999,

Look in the Event Viewer to see if anything is reported about those.

    http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista\_event\_viewer.htm

MyEventViewer - Free - a simple alternative to the standard event viewer of Windows.TIP - Options - Advanced Filter allows you to see a time frame instead of the whole file.

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/my\_event\_viewer.html

Also do this so you can see the likely bluescreens.

Windows Vista automatically restarts if your PC encounters an error that causes it to crash.

    http://www.winvistatips.com/disable-automatic-restart-t84.html

Here are some methods to possibly fix the blue screen issue. If you could give the Blue Screen info

that would help. Such as the BCC and the other 4 entries on the lower left. And any other error

information such as STOP codes and info such as IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and similar messages.

    As examples :

    BCCode: 116

    BCP1: 87BC9510

    BCP2: 8C013D80

    BCP3: 00000000

    BCP4: 00000002

    or in this format :

Stop: 0x00000000 (oxoooooooo oxoooooooo oxooooooooo oxoooooooo)

    tcpip.sys - Address 0x00000000 base at 0x000000000 DateStamp 0x000000000

Many BlueScreens are caused by old or corrupted drivers, especially video drivers however there

    are other causes.

You can do these in Safe Mode if needed or from Command Prompt from Vista DVD or Recovery

hey roof I just encountered a recurring BSOD with an error of the nvlddmkm.sys file.  I cant do anything on the computer, no safe mode and it definintely wont start up normally or with last known good configuration.  This problem prohibited me from being able to complete one of my finals and I really need to get it fixed asap...if you know how to fix it that would be awesome.  If that doesnt work is it possible to just buy a new card?  I admit the card is old but only 2 years old...i dont see how it could be a problem...could i just get a newer nvidia card or would i have to switch over to ati?  I really just want to fix this problem as fast as i can.  thanks

    hi guys,

    try this

    http://www.nvidia.co.uk/page/troubleshooting.html

and make sure ur bios is up to date.

i had a similar problem with mine vgn-fz11s, i sent it to vaio for repair cos i had 3 years extended repair for it (free). what they did was they updated my bios and they changed my main board (My motherboard) and also cleaned my laptop and now my laptop is operating lastest version of nividia graphic.

i have nvidia geforce 8400m gt gpu.

also note that some manufacturers like sony have extended their repair for this problem for some models. so it is best to contact ur manufacturer.

if u are unable to boot to normal mode. in safe mode either disable or unistall the display driver through device manger in control panel. if u can not go to safe mode then ask again i will tell u what to do in order to get in to windows in either mode.
