**Original Title**nvlddmkm.sys causes BSOD

Hi,

I can't start Vista since a week or so. Just before the login screen should apear, it crashes into a BSOD, reporting that the problem is the nvlddmkm.sys driver.

I've been checking the Internet for days now (a lot of forums), and it seems to be a "common" problem, occuring with all kinds hardware and software configurations. I've tried just about everything to fix it, but nothing seems to work.

Is there a solution for this problem?

Hi Maarte61,

Sorry to your having so much trouble. Since your having the same issue even when the driver was rolled back, it leads me to believe even more so, that it could be card itself. You might try contacting the cards manufacturer. We could rule this out though, if you have another video card we can try. Do you have one you could test?

Thanks again,

Hi Maarte61,

Unfortunately, my guess would be the driver or the card itself. Since it worked fine for while, then just stopped. My best guess would be the card's the issue. Can you cancel the driver install when you get to normal mode? If so, I would try canceling it and downloading the new driver. Or if your in "Safe mode with networking" I'd go ahead and download them them and have them ready. So if you can cancel, you wouldn't have to go download them. Let us know and thanks again for posting.

Thanks,

Jason

    hi guys,

    try this

    http://www.nvidia.co.uk/page/troubleshooting.html

and make sure ur bios is up to date.

i had a similar problem with mine vgn-fz11s, i sent it to vaio for repair cos i had 3 years extended repair for it (free). what they did was they updated my bios and they changed my main board (i am not sure which boad, it could be graphic card one or the laptop one, they have not mentioned in report) and also cleaned my laptop and now my laptop is operating lastest version of nividia graphic.

i have nvidia geforce 8400m gt gpu.

also note that some manufacturers like sony have extended their repair for this problem for some models. so it is best to contact ur manufacturer.

if u are unable to boot to normal mode. in safe mode either disable or unistall the display driver through device manger in control panel. if u can not go to safe mode then ask again i will tell u what to do in order to get in to windows in either mode.

From all these posts it seems like this is a hardware problem not a software issue. If you are getting pink stripes in the post then you hardware is either broken or out of sync with other components. Try and use a different video card or use the built-in video of the Motherboard if you have this feature. Have you recently upgraded the memory, CPU or even Motherboard?

If you can get this PC to run with no nVidia drivers loaded and it starts to BSOD with them loaded then it does seem like this video card may be damaged due to heat. Can u run a utility like CPUID Hardware Monitor to verify your Video card is running within the temperature tolerances the manufacturer specifies for that card?
