APPLICATION ERROR

I lost all sound on my computer.  When I try to click on the sound volumn icon on my desk top I get the following error message:

 SNDVOL32.EXEC APPLICATION ERROR

The application failed to initalize properly(0xc0000005)

I have already downloaded new sound drivers off the internet but that didn't fix the problem.

Any ideas out there?  Pleae help..........  I need my sound back on.

WELL GLORY HALALUYA, I'VE GOT SOUND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Here's what I did:  Restarted my computer in safe mode and clicked on "Last Known Configuration that Worked."  I then reloaded new sound drivers again (REALTECK AC97) and low and behold sound came back............

That's all I know. 

We'll see how long it last but for now I am one happy camper !

Again my personal thanks to each and every one of you who contributed to this post.  If I could I'd buy you all a beer !

    Hi,  I believe THAT is an answer to No Sound condition.  I suggest the post from 'Easy Fix' as the answer for the annoying "Application Error- SNDVOL32.exe".  In my case it just prevents opening Volume-Advanced otherwise audio is fine.  The "Easy Fix' answer is on other websites circa 2006.

    Since editing the registry is required, shouldn't Microsoft have an official help article just for restoring audio in the registry?

    MY PROBLEM FIXED by just:  create Audfix.reg:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]

    "aux"="wdmaud.drv"

    cirrus7 has a point. You must also check that SPDIF output is not selected. For that open Volume Control click on 'Options' menu and select 'Advance Controls' so that a tick appears before it. You will see an 'Advanced' below the main control. Click it and find an option similar to 'SPDIF Out' and and uncheck it.

    Also use the 'Unknown Devices' software, ( http://www.halfdone.com/Development/UnknownDevices/UKD\_14-20\_Beta.zip ) unzip and run UnknownDevices. After the Unknown Devices completes its scan, press Ctrl+L keys to show all devices. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers" then expand your sound card. Now reply all the information written about you sound card it so that we can find an alternate driver on the internet. I am asking this because if you have an intel mainboard then the onboard sound chip may also work with Intel sound drivers as well as with Soundmax sound drivers.

    I have done on my Dell: Uninstalled integrated soundcard drivers - back to "legacy" windows audio. (Soundmax instructs to do so before update). Might then have sound. As a test: In Bios turned off sound, then no Volume, no wave form display and no sound. Another time: did Safe Boot option: "Last Known Configuration" and it worked. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222 and just use F8 instead of F2, F12 Cyber Power might have included a diagnostic utility partition to test hardware. My Dell: no sound if digital out because sound system is only connected to analog out.

    OK.  Here's where I am.  Did the EASYFIX solution just as was instructed.  It work OK and the new registry code was merged without error.

    But, it didnot give me any sound.  So, I reloaded new sound drivers off the inter-net, ie: REALTECK AC'97 AUDIO SETUP (5.36) A4.06. 

    After sucessful installation was prompted to restart the computer.  When I cliked on "RESTART" low and behold I HEARD the exit chime for Windows as it shut down.  Nearly fell out of my chair !!!!  However, when the system started back up again I did not heard the welcome chime for the Windows Start Up.  Now isn't that strange?  Also, no more sounds anywhere.

    Now I've checked everything I know to check.  Speaker cables, sound not "muted" anywhere and I have no special sound equipment hooked up like micro-phone or anything like that.

    All my games are 32-bit.  I have nothing that is 64-bit on the machine.  I am not using an Add-On Sound Card.  I plan to do the reboot thing useing the F8 key and then restarting the computer on "Last Known Configuration that Worked" to see what that does.  Will keep everyone posted.

    Can't thank you all enough.  I know there is a solution out there somewhere, just have to find the right combination.
