APPLICATION ERROR

I'm having this problem, too along with another one, and they seem to be from the same source. I've had this problem before after doing a new installation, then I couldn't figure it out and thought that it was my fault, and went ahead and did a new install.

After the new installation everything was back to normal. About two days later I started getting the same errors. I'm getting it with sndvol32.exe, and with mpnex20.exe. This just came out of nowhere, when I try to open volume control the error pops up, and when I try to use my scanner (Canon) as well.

I did a memtest scan and no problems came up with my ram. I reinstalled the scanner drivers, and the problem is still there. I'm not sure what is associated with helping to run these applications, but these problems just randomnly came up while regularly using the pc.

So this is the second time now, after the new install. I did a new installation to begin with because my last install was a year old. I didn't have these problems at all, all that time until after the new install.

I'm not sure, but could it have anything to do with .net framework? I'm using Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3.

working again.

I thought sure replacing the SndVol32.exe file off my W/XP Disk would do the trick.  I following the instructions to the letter but it made no difference.

I then ran the online safety scan and while it did find a few issues, it cleaned them up but still no sound.

I don't have a restore point to restore to that is before I discovered no sound on the computer, so that wouldn't work either.

So, here I am, deaf when it comes to sounds coming from this darn machine.  Anthing else you can think of for me to try, short of re-formatting my hard drive, would be greatly appreicated.  I know you must be growing tried of this problem the same as I am but please know I do appreicate your efforts.

The issue may occur if the SndVol32.exe file is damaged or corrupted.

To verify, did the issue remain after the steps in the first link above? For reference below is the link.  The steps in the link may help to resolve the issue as it includes steps to replace the SndVol32.exe file listed under Method 2.

Volume icon is not displayed in the notification area, and you may receive an error message when you try to add it

If the issue persists, you may also run an online safety scan to check for and remove viruses, spyware, and other potentially unwanted software.

Next, once the safety scan is complete, you may try running the system restore tool to return your computer to a previous state prior to when the issue occurred.

Hello Mary.  Many thanks for your responce.  I was beginning to think there was no one out there who could help.

Here is the info you asked for:  Computer make and model is AMD ATHLON (tm) 64 PROCESSOR 3000+

I have Windows XP Home edition version 2002 w/serv pac 3.  Mfg. is Cyber Power Inc.

My volume icon IS displayed OK but you cannot adjust the sound up or down.  Whenever you try to click on the icon to do so you get the following:

SNDVOL32.EXE. APPLICATION ERRORThe Application failed to initalize properly (0Xc0000005)

I have tried everything the instructions tell me to do in the troubleshooter.  No luck and of course No Sound!!!!

I have downloaded new sound drivers off the internet and they installed OK.  Device Mgr shows all sound devices working properly.  So, I don't know where to turn.  Anything you can think of would sure be welcomed.
