Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560A ATA DEVICE don't work

I have been having the same problem with my Sony Vaio VGN-CR42S and I have not been able to use the cd-rom for months.  I followed your steps and now it works perfectly.  I feel like a dog with 2 tails.  Thank you so much.

Hello, Aaron.  I also have the same drive (Sony Optiarc DVD-RW AD-7560A Super-Multi OEM Drive) & also having the same issue w/differences:               1> My system is a laptop.  ZT Systems ZT-1015i, 4GB DDR mem., 250GB HD, Intel Dual-Core Processor(2GHz), 64-bit Operating System, OS: Windows Vista Home Premium, SP2.               2>The AD-7560A is replacing the original OEM drive that gave up the ghost on me last yr.; that OEM was an AD-7530B.               3>Did the following steps above as well as uninstalled the device & even did a clean reinstall of the OS to be on the safe side; after I reinstalled the OS & it repeated the same issue of being seen by the Dev. Mgr. w/no bangs & not playing any KG CD/DVD Media, though the drive saw the disk, I went into the BIOS & changed the boot order to have the system boot from the drive using the recovery disk---surprisingly it booted off the disk outside of Windows, but still repeated the issue when in the Windows environment when I returned the BIOS boot order to normal.  And I also physically removed the OEM drive &reinserted it back into the Module Bay---no change in issue.                   (NOTE: Sony-Optiarc NO LONGER MANUFACTURES THE AD-7560A NOR THE AD-7530B & DOESN'T OFFER ANY DRIVERS OR FIRMWARE TO RECTIFY/RESOLVE THIS ISSUE; ZT SYSTEMS ALSO NO HELP SINCE MY SYSTEM WAS A "SPECIAL CONFIG." THRU NEWEGG.COM FROM ZT SYSTEMS.)               Lastly, I also did the "regedit" as well; saw only the upper filters & deleted them hoping it would resolve this issue....at present it still remains: sees the media disk---but will not play it at all.  Used an external USB drive of the same type---played w/o any problems.               My only "best guess" is that maybe the native drivers in Vista that govern the operation of DVD/CD OEM Drives of any type might have a "hiccup" of some sort that's preventing this particular drive from operating like it should; got this system in '08 & it still performs magnificently as if I got it for the 1st time.  I'm at my wit's end with this issue---any help to help me resolve this issue would make me a very happy camper.  Thank You.

Can you please attempt these steps?  Please be very cautious when editing the registry.  If you would please not delete anything just yet.  If you would please perform the following steps....If Upper and Lower Filters is not within this Registry Key, please simply exit the registry. 

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start

, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM. 3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete. 4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry. 5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete. 6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry. 7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

I'm having the same problem. I have already deleted the upper filter(there wasn't a lower filter). I have tried restoring to a point when it was working and it still didn't fix it. The DVD drive only shows in the device manager if there is a disc in it and when it does show in the device manager it has the ! And says code 10 and won't work. I have an alienware area 51 m5500 with an otiarc 5540a and windows vista. It is out of warranty so alienware won't help me with anything any help is appreciated.
