XBOX 360 wireless receiver won't connect to controller with Windows 7 64bit

Hello, im having a problem with a xbox 360 wireless receiver on my windows 7 64bit, i installed the software that came with the receiver and it installed fine but when i went to connect the controller with the receiver it doesnt work, i've tried it dozens of times and i have rang microsoft for help but they werent too sure. Its a official controller which came with an xbox360 and the receiver isnt microsoft but i was told from the microsoft people that some receivers are made outside of microsoft but are still fine. I'm wondering if there is a specific windows 7 receiver driver for it?

hey thanks i got it to work! so relieved. heres how you do it:

Right click on Computer

Go to Properties

Click on Device Manager

Right click on the Unidentified Device

Go to Properties

Go to the Drive tab

Click on Update Driver…

Browse my computer for driver software

Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer

Microsoft Common Controller for Window Class

Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009]

Update Driver Warning

Click Yes

i cant believe it was that simple, you dont need to download any seperate driver or anything, just follow the steps.

    I would like to point out the the older White model receiver has a design flaw. The devices works fine and one day it doesn't work at all with no changes to configurations connections etc. no power what so ever. There are hundreds of users including myself that tried everything and this device would not even be detected on any computer on any USB port on any OS. I tested this with Win XP Pro Sp3, all the way up to Windows 7 64 bit same results. The cause was a surface mount fuse inside this device had been blown, research showed this is most commonly due to when you plug or unplug your device to or from the USB port while computer is powered on. Kinda takes the whole meaning out of USB Plug and Play don't you think? The solution will void any warranty you have on this device and to be on the safe side could damage your device, your computer or USB hub connected to it however;  for myself and many others the fix was just bypassing this surface mount fuse in the device. This bypass works flawless for me and once again I am able to use my receiver. If you wish to know more just Google for the blown fuse issue on this device. My only rgret is that to this day Microsoft has not offered any Chat pad support with this device, one of the main reasons for buying it.

    I am having the same issue.  When i go to devices on my windows 7 i have an unknown device which i cant do anything with.  any solution for it? i already downloaded the driver from the cd and online but still to no avail

    I have a similar problem. My controller works fine, however, when I plug in the Play & Charge cable, the lights on the X logo on the controller just start flashing and the controller stops working.

    1. the wireless receiver is still connected
    2. the battery is charging

    but it seems that the controller resets its frequency and is no longer connected to the wireless receiver. I tried:

    1. pressing the button in the wireless receiver
    2. swapping the USB ports
    3. updating the drivers for both the wireless receiver and the play&charge kit
    4. uninstalling everything and installing it again
    5. restarting the computer

    It has worked twice before. They day I bought the Play&Charge kit, I plugged it and worked flawlessly. Then when I had to plug it again this has happened and I lost connection

    I only regain connection but unplugging the charger from the remote, pressing the button on the wireless receiver and the radio button on the controller. Then they're synced again. But as soon as I plug it in again, wham, starts flashing and lose connection.

    I'm also using Win7 64 bits.

    It has worked before, so I can't understand what the problem is. And I've searched online a lot and can't find anyone with the same issue.
