My taskbar keeps disappearing randomly and will not come back until I restart.  Once I restart the taskbar comes back and then disappears again. I have looked at the other solutions from people having similar problems and the solutions do not work.

open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del, click Task Manager)

Click on File>New Task (Run) and enter "explorer.exe" (without the quotes)

Then click OK.

Does it come back?

WHY does this work??? What is causing this? It just started happening for me after installing updates yesterday. How do I fix it permanently?

JWMA's temporary fix worked for me.  I've been using Windows 7 for some months now, but this disappearing taskbar problem only started a couple of days ago for who-knows-what-reason.  The only "fix" I've found to work among the plethora of them posted on various boards is JWMA's of ending the explorer process, then restarting.  It is exceptionally aggravating to have to do this, and I assume at this point it is due to some damned auto-update from Microsoft.

At least I know how to get it back short-term, but I hope Microsoft resolves this before Windows 8 comes around.

M5Power:  I had this problem with both screensaver types (preloaded on my laptop and 2nd party).  I have found that the solution that angel_chickxx posted has worked each and every time.  (Solution:  preview your screensaver.  When you get out of the preview, your taskbar should be there.)  I know it's aggravating and something we shouldn't have to do but there's always glitches in every program, right?  Let us know if this works.  Good luck!

I'm not happy that other people have this problem but I'm glad it's not just me. This caused a delay in completing my homework assignments for several hours just trying to find a solution to this problem. I hope this works with the screensaver preview. How are we supposed to know when MS fixes the problem? Are they going to contact us? Yeah, right.
