My taskbar keeps disappearing randomly and will not come back until I restart.  Once I restart the taskbar comes back and then disappears again. I have looked at the other solutions from people having similar problems and the solutions do not work.

open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del, click Task Manager)

Click on File>New Task (Run) and enter "explorer.exe" (without the quotes)

Then click OK.

Does it come back?

Thank you,JWMA! Your solution worked for me. I have Toshiba notebook with Vista SP2.

For me, the task bar started to disappear only recently, it seems it started after I installed Apple iTunes. I suspect the Apples's Bonjour service might be causing this.

I plan to get rid of Bonjour service, let's see if it helps.

    Ross,

I tried this (twice) and it did not work.  I have also checked and I do not have auto-hide checked, nor have I dragged anything to the task bar.  It was fine for months and just disappeared this week. It comes back for about 5 minutes when I restart then disappears again - help!

The only thing that works for me is opening task manager, going to processes, scrolling to explorer.exe, and ending process.  Then go to file, new task, and write "explorer" in.  Press enter.  That works (thanks JWMA!) for a temporary fix.  Mine does this if I don't put the computer in sleep or hibernate.  I hope a service pack will come out and solve this, it's annoying!
